1. Which conceptualization of leadership most appeals to you? Which one least appeals to you? Why? Give examples.
The Group Process of leadership appeals to me the most because it focuses on the leadership role in a group. Also, it emphases on how a leader contributes to a group’s success. For example, in the Group Process, it shows how a leader’s work is organized to utilize personnel and resources, how committed members are to perform their work assignments effectively, how confident members are that their assignments can be accomplished successfully and the extent to which members trust each other and cooperate in accomplishing assignment goals. Even though I like the Dyadic Process, which focuses on the relationship between a leader and another individual, the Group Process highlights other good quality behaviors in a leader. The Intra-Individual Process appeals to me the least because it focuses on the process within a single person. It does not include one essential qualities of a leader, which is guiding/teaching others such as subordinates, peers and external clients. This process involves a leader identifying their own behavior, managing their time efficiently, objectives and priority, and trying to learn to be more effective in accomplishing personal objectives/goals.
2. What sort of leadership (choose one: authoritarian, democratic, laissez-faire) do you prefer as a group member and why?
I prefer Democratic Leadership as a group member because it allows all members of the group to be a contributor in the decision making process, share and contribute ideas. Because group members are encouraged to share their thoughts, better ideas and more creative solutions take place. Group members also feel more involved and committed to projects, making them more likely to care about the end results. I think that higher productivity among group members happens in a democratic leadership environment.
