Anne Frank's Life During The Holocaust

Approximately six million Jews died during the Holocaust. One well-known Jewish victim was a young girl named Anne Frank, who became most famous through her diary writings about her childhood life and her life during the Holocaust (“Anne Frank”- Jewish Virtual Library). She and her family became a few of the most famous victims of Hitler’s reign of terror among the Jews. Anne’s full name was Annelise Marie Frank. She was born on June 12, 1929. She was born in Frankfurt, Germany into the family of Otto and Edith Frank (“Frank, Anne”-Britannica Elementary Encyclopedia). During the first few years of her life, Anne and her older sister, Margot, grew up in Germany, which was quickly becoming dangerous for its Jewish inhabitants. When Adolf Hitler, who was the leader of the Anti-Jewish National Socialist party, came into power in 1933, Anne and her family fled to the Netherlands in hopes of safety (“Frank, Anne”- Compton’s by Britannica). Anne and her family lived in the particularly safe city of Holland (“Anne Frank”- Jewish Virtual Library). Anne’s Father, Otto, had set up a part of his brothers company in Amsterdam. Life was going fairly well for the family, that is until May of 1940,

They were soon joined by Jewish dentist, Fritz Pfeffer, one of Otto’s Jewish co-workers, Hermann van Pels, his wife, and their son, Peter, who was close in age with Anne. They hid in a secret annex (a room adjoined to or added into a main building) that Anne’s father had prepared for them. The opening of the annex was hidden only by a hinged bookcase. Anne was only twelve at the time. The families tried to continue with life as normal as they possibly could.
