In a normal job, you get up, go to work, and come home, and that is the limit of the level of involvement. The army is not one of those jobs. In the army, we are constantly training our mind and bodies for a combat environment. In such an environment, the level of involvement must be much higher. Soldier accountability is the one of the main responsibilities of the leadership in the Army. Whether it comes from the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) support channel or from the actual chain of command. The NCO support channel plays the biggest role in the accountability process. During any type of formation you will notice that the process starts with team leaders ensuring their team is all present passing the information through the squad leader to the platoon sergeant. At this point the platoon sergeant will pass the information along to the platoon leader and company first sergeant. The company first sergeant will then pass the information along to the company commander. At this point if there…

Accountability is an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for ones actions. Those that are unable to be accountable are the ones that jeopardize the combat readiness of any unit. It is the understanding that everyone is going to do and is willing to do the right thing even when no one else is looking. Everyone is assigned tasks and details not only including your own job that you are expected to do and do right but hold others accountable as well as a system of “check yourself, than check your buddy.” Doing the job correctly and ensuring others do it as well and do it safely are all part of accountability in the military as it can be dangerous given the types of equipment and tools we use. As an example any tools and or equipment left unsupervised can be lost and or stolen. As such in that event if the tools and or equipment was left out instead of signed out the wrong person becomes accountable. Everyone is accountable for their actions. You should always act responsibly as well, not just yourself but everyone. We spend thousands of dollars for each person to be trained and when ready, the expectation at your permanent party duty station is that you are going to be accountable for your actions and you as an individual operate and, that everyone around you is going to do the same. It is what is not only taught but it is what’s expected from everyone. Being accountable means being dependable, showing up to work and to appointments on time, meeting deadlines, being at the right place and at the right time and doing the right thing at the right time. It is also to see if everyone showed up to work or where they are supposed to be. Accountability is not only for keeping track of other people it can also be for keeping track of money, gear, legal documents, and many other things. The reason you would want to keep track of any of this is so if there is ever a time where a lot of equipment or other items goes missing you would be able to look…

This is my outlook on why maintaining unit readiness is important. We will break it down into how it affects the people around you, as well as the people you didn’t even suspect would be affected by it. We will also break it down into garrison and deployment scenarios. Now, I myself having never been deployed before will not be able to get to specific in facts, but try to go into well drawn out detail how I believe things work. To maintain unit readiness you must first and for most always be ready. Be ready for anything and everything. At the drop of a dime you could be called upon to go to battle. And taking my situation in mind if you are not at your assigned place of duty when you are supposed to be you will not only be AWAL you will be…

The importance of being on time accounted for is because lets say that you dont come back to formation after you go out on a convoy then they know that you are missing. If you do not show up and you do not respond on the radio there is going to possibly be a search team for you. If they do send a search team for then that puts that entire team at risk while looking for you. Point of accountability formation is to make sure all of your soldiers are there and that they are all accounted for. If one person is not accounted for then the entire formation does not leave. It is not just the fact that everyone is accounted for it is part of your military duty to be at formation and at movement. If you do not make it to formation or movement it is punishable by UCMJ. It could be the end of your carrer. Not only will it ruin everything that you have gone through and wasted your time but you are also letting your battels down and if you can not show up to formation what makes you think that they can trust you in being there in the time of need. If you can not be there then what is your team going to think when they hear over the radio that you are on the way and you are the only one that can help them. They are going to be like what that is the only person we have well we are al good as dead. Accountablility does not end in the army life it also goes into civilian world. When you have a job in the civilian world they are looking for someone that be on time and do the job but the second that you are not on time your accountabliity starts to go down the drain. Not only is accountability good tohave in the work place but at home. If your family can not count on you then who can they count on? Accountability is also important with your friends if they feel that they can count on you and for some reason you give them a reason to not count od you that could be a relationship killer. I just do not know how to put it into a essay how important accountability is. If you cannot be…

Accountability is very important in the Army. Accountability is taking responsibility for your actions and your items. By meaning what you say, saying what you mean, and doing what you say, when you say you will do it. By keeping track of all my items and equipment I can always be ready for anything that is needed of me by my country, my superiors, or other servicemen. Being accountable means being dependable. Where my country, my superiors and fellow servicemen can count on me in any situation. to know I will be there to do what is necessary. Taking responsibility for your own actions and equipment is what keeps things running smoothly. And keeps things from turning into utter chaos. Being in formation on time everyday is an prime example of accountability. Formation is where the Army takes accountability of everyone and to get important information out that needs to be dealt with. Without accountability there is no knowing of where everyone is or whats going on. Knowing where your equipment and personal effects are at all times is very important also. By not putting a lock on my wall locker, I was not talking responsibility for my own items, and not doing what I was told to do by my superiors. I was not being responsible. Keeping my items locked and secured is very important now and in the future. As with keeping all sensitive items secured and accounted for later on. Keeping my wall locker locked, keeps accountability of all my items and teaches me to always maintain my equipment, my arms, and myself. Many things could have happened by me failing to adhere to my responsibilities. My wall locker could have been vandalized, or items of mine could have been stolen. And if it was sensitive information that was seen or taken, I could have jeopardized people lives or the outcome of our country. If my items were taken, Then I would not have the proper items and materials to be properly trained to the standards of a…

On a small scale, being punctual for formations and general points of duty allows leaders to ensure accountability for their soldiers, address notes and tasks for the day, and promotes organization within the unit. In a larger picture, everyone’s responsibilities for the day are dependent on the entire unit to be where they need to be at the appropriate time. For example, in the event of a company going to the range the armor has to be available to open the arms room to issue the weapons as leaders need ample time to take accountability of their soldiers and to thoroughly conduct pre-combat checks and pre-combat inspections. Support units are obligated to arrive on time due to their responsibility to provide ammunition and transportation. Something as simple as the armor being late can cause a domino effect for the entire mission.…

Insubordination in the Military goes against many of the 7 Core Army Values, one of them being Respect; if one can’t respect their superiors and complete simple task, how are the leaders supposed to respect them and expect them to ever accomplish their missions. It shows a lack of discipline, the soldiers creed states “I am disciplined.” Discipline is essential for any soldier in order to be enlisted in the Military. This also makes the unit look bad. If a unit has undisciplined soldiers, the…

In the Army it is extremely important to be accountable for one’s self and their soldiers. From the purposes of a squad leader it is always important to know where and what your soldiers are doing. Prime case is if you notice that your soldier is not at accountability formation and they never have missed that formation before it would probably behoove you to try and get in contact with the soldier. Granted their tardiness most likely may be due to something as trivial as oversleeping, forgetting to turn on or wake up to their alarm or being stuck in traffic on slight chances it could be something terribly worse such as hospitalization or death. In my own experience I have seen a stellar soldier who one day did not show up to morning formation and his squad leader failed to recognize his absence and towards the end of the day is when everyone found out that the same soldier had committed suicide the night prior. I am not saying that the squad leader is at fault in any way for the soldier’s choice to take his own life, however his entire chain of command failed to recognize his absence which could have resulted in an earlier reorganization of the tragedy. But I digress from my tangent and shall go on further to discuss the importance of personal accountability ranging from the lowest ranking private to the highest ranking officer. The bottom line is that accountability means letting your actions rise above your excuses. In the midst of everything accountability is…

By not being accounted for I have let my unit down and failed in the missions that needed to be completed. I have not set a good examples for my Soldiers in my squad or fellow NCO’s. I did not lead by example. As a non commissioned officer I should have used better judgement. I can’t expect my chain of command to entrust Soldier’s to me if I cannot be accountiable for my actions. I truly regret not having better accountability of myself. I have caused work to be late due to the fact that I let my personal issues cloud my judgement. It will not happen again. I need to ensure that I always strive to do better and achieve all of the goals in which I have set forth. I now realize that no matter what issue I am having that I need to communicate better with my chain of command so that they can help me. If I would have communicated more with my chain of command then there would not have been an issue with my wear abouts. I need to ensure that I am in the proper place at all times and if I am not then I need to ensure that someone knows where I am at all times. I must ensure that my Soldier’s are where they are supposed to be in their proper uniform. I need to ensure that I am that to receive the proper information to put out to them. If I do not put out the information to my Soldiers then I have failed them. It could be consequences for the Soldier due to me not putting out the information in time. Also, I must always b e accountable for my actions no matter how severe the consequences are. I need to teach the Soldier’s that it is best to have integrity in all situations. By not have good accountability for myself I did not live up to all of the Army values. Once you have neglected one army value then you might have well neglected them all. Also by not making it to accountability it looks like I was blowing off pregnancy pt. Pregnancy pt is a post wide program and is mandatory that you let them know where you are during pt hours due to them…
