300 Words on World Religion

World religion is very important in many ways. For example, If we don’t know much about world religion, we might grow up to be totally belligerent to other peoples belief systems in the world. This would ultimately lead us to have many problems later in life, because we would have no idea how to deal with something that may be different to our life style and beliefs. Learning about world religion helps us by exposing us to things we might not be used to, and teaching us to be more tolerable of other peoples beliefs and lifestyles. I am exited to be learning about world religion for several reasons. First of all, world religion is an extremely interesting subject focusing on many different types of religion. The reason this is exiting is it is always good to learn about something that seems different to you, even though it may be normal to other people. In fact, what seems to be normal to you religion wise, might be super different to other people in other parts of the world, or even around you! That is why I feel that instead of being afraid of differences when it comes to religion, I should feel exited and embrace the diversity and different beliefs I notice. In all, I feel world religion is an equally exiting and important subject to learn about. I think by focusing on the positive aspects of learning about world religion it will make more enjoyable and help the information stick more in my brain. I am not sure of the difficulty when it comes to learning about world religion, but even if it is hard I know there is great importance in learning about it.

What is a worldview? A worldview is how people see the world and how they interpret the world around them. A worldview is also how people live their lives, how they make decisions and what they believe is reality. To some a worldview is so very important in their lives and to others it is not something they think about very often or not as important. What worldview you believe in helps you answer some important question like how did humans get here and what is their purpose in life. There are many worldviews in this world. Some believe in God (Christians, Catholics, Mormons…), some believe there is no God (Atheist), others believe we live in heaven eternally after death (Christians), and some believe were are reincarnated (Buddhism). The Christian worldview is very important to Christians. The most important parts of the Christian worldview are God, humanity, Jesus and restoration.…

Religion is one of the factors that help to maintain balance in the world. There are many religions in this world. Every religion has its own beliefs and ways of following it. Religions may vary in many aspects. While some religions may have the same beliefs, some will have the exact opposite beliefs. I come from a place where even though there are many religions found I get to observe and practice only my own religion. Even if people are open about different religions, one religion being involved in another is not acceptable for my society. This is one of the reasons why I have always been curious about other religions and their ways of following and practicing it. This is why when I got a chance to go to a Jewish Synagogue as a part of a religious service…

Today is a particularly exciting time to be studying religion because it is so complex. Religion I believe is very important in today’s world. Being able to know many things about religion is good just because you have to understand why people are doing what they are doing. It is also important because religion is everywhere we look today and being able to understand it will help. Throughout my whole life I personally didn’t have a really good understanding of what I really believed. Everyone has many different beliefs and different cultural rituals. But just because you don’t know so much about that…

From the word religion, it came from two Latin words “re” and “ligare” which to reconnect. Religion promotes high principles of human morality for the establishment of good relations among society’s members and eliminates all discrimination. As a result of this, it creates teamwork. It makes the society work as a team to help each other get by on “the passage of life” instead of making it more difficult. Also doing this will not only reduce conflicts and hatred with one another, plus it also keeps everyone organized and will work together to create a better world for the next generation of our world. Even though we know the purpose of this, why is this important to…

Buddhism is one of the most popular religions in the world. It can be traced back to 563 B.C.E. with the birth of Siddhartha Gautama. He is more commonly known as the Buddha, meaning the “Awakened One”. Buddhism spread quickly throughout Asia and other regions of the world but it remained virtually unknown in the West until the last fifty years. The teachings and practices of Buddhism were spread through three main channels: “Western scholars; the work of philosophers, writers and artists; and the arrival of Asian immigrants who have brought various forms of Buddhism with them to Europe, North America and Australia” (BuddhaNet.net, 2008). My mother, Nguyen Thi Lien Kirk (Lien), and her two close friends, Nhu Lan Nguyen (Lan) and Cuc Pigeon (Cuc), are three examples of immigrants from Vietnam who brought the ideals of Buddhism to the United States following the Vietnam War.…

Religion is a way of life for much of mankind, and though all religions are not the same, do all religions do the same thing? Can religion be considered as a way to unite mankind, or viewed as a way to segregate them. Lines are drawn by religions even though many look to religion as a way of life. To join again is the linguistic meaning of the word religion. To search or find the divine or sacred is what drives mankind to follow religion in all its shapes and forms. From Christianity to Buddhism, to indigenous religions such as the Native Americans, or Igbo tribes of Africa, while studying religion what components will be deemed critical…

"Christianity started out in Palestine as a fellowship; it moved to Greece and became a philosophy; it moved to Italy and became an institution; it moved to Europe and became a culture; it came to America and became an enterprise" as stated by theological scholar Sam Pascoe. Throughout Christianity’s journey they have come across ties with the religions Judaism and Islam. There are few similarities between the three major religions. One similarity is that Abraham is viewed the same between all three religions. The only other similarity is that all 3 religions believe in a God, just in different ways. There are much more similar theological aspects of the religions when Christianity is compared to Islam itself and Judaism alone.…

Why is religion so important? Religion is an important means through which many people form an identity within their society. Religion gives people sanction and something to stand for and to live for. Religion greatly shaped the growth of colonial life in North America. Religion greatly shaped the growth of the colonial life in North America. The people needed religious freedom therefore they created the new colonies of New England and Chesapeake Bay. The two societies development was greatly influenced by religion. They both were founded by peoples of English origin, but they both had different religious background; New England was more religion based because those who came mainly came for religious salvation with their families while on the other hand those of Chesapeake bay were mainly single men in search of gold.…

Prelude: Originally I had my TA, Amy Picknell sign me up for the KTC visit on Sunday September 16th. However, I unfortunately had to go to an unexpected funeral on that Saturday and Sunday so I wasn’t able to go to the KTC meditation. I ended up leaving Columbus Friday night and on my way down I kept looking and looking for places to visit and couldn’t find anything. Then, out of nowhere I noticed some of the places listed on carmen and one of the places was a Buddhist temple in Yellow Springs, Ohio. The funeral was in Dayton and Yellow Springs was no more than 35 minutes away. So me being the angelic student I am, got up on Saturday at 6:00AM…

In his book The Intra-religious Dialogue, Raimon Panikkar seeks to tap into our daily humanistic encounters through teachings, discussion, questions and exploration as a basis of religious dialogue. Panikkar sets forth a guidebook of sorts in which the reader can better understand his/her set of beliefs and faiths as well as set out on a personal mission to encounter the religious practices of people around the world without prejudice or preconceived notions. I think the main issue set forth by Panikkar is to guide us along the path towards the “realization of human destiny” and provide us with the tools to higher comprehension of all faiths and beliefs.…
