Treasure Island

Squire Trelawney

Squire Trelawney—Trelawney is an impulsive, talkative man whose inability to keep the treasure-seeking voyage a secret dooms the mission from the start. He is opinionated, stubborn and grudging in the first half of the tale. When it comes to light that he has been fooled and that the crew he has hired is full of pirates, Trelawney accepts the blame and humbly submits to Captain Smollett’s direction. He thereafter proves an invaluable resource whose aim is unequalled. He helps to defend the stockade with great bravery and skill. He also shows the full measure of his character when he humbly begs forgiveness from his servant, who is mortally wounded in the assault.
