1.1 Identify the responsibilities of a paediatric first aider.
The responsibility of paediatric is to doing everything you can to save someone’s life without putting yourself in danger. Remain calm at all times Appear confident and reassuring

1.2 Describes how to minimise the risk of infection to self and others.
* I should always wash my hands before and after giving first aid treatment * I should always wear disposable gloves for dealing with any first aid situations involving blood or other body fluids (e.g. vomit)
I can minimise the risk of infection by using personal protective ❖ Face shield ❖ Apron ❖ Mask ❖ Effective washing of hands

1.3 Describe suitable first aid equipment including personal protection and how it is used appropriately • There is no definite guide to the content of a first aid kit but as a guide you will expect to see: * 2 sterile eye pads * 20 individually wrapped sterile dressings

• At least 1 pair of disposable gloves

• * No tablets or medicines

• 6 medium sized and individually wrapped sterile and non-medicated wound dressings

1.4 Identify what information needs to be included in an accident report/incident record, and how to record it The record must include: ❖ the date, time and place of the incident ❖ the name (and class) of the injured or ill person ❖ details of the injury or illness ❖ details of the first aid provided ❖ what happened to the person immediately afterwards ❖ The name and signature of the first aider or person dealing with the incident.

1.5 define an infant and child for the purpose first aid

An infant is classed as baby under the age of 12 moths and a child aged 1-5 years
