Best Decision Ever Made For many people, the best decision that they have ever made is something big; like perhaps joining a sports team or entering into a big contest. For me, though, the best decision that I have ever made is simply my decision to start running in my free time. Running is the best decision I have ever made because it made me healthy and I eventually made new friends from it. Growing up, I joined many sports teams, but none of them ever interested me. The only one that did interest me was soccer. The problem with soccer was that I did not have the time to play in the travel league. Therefore, I was stuck with no physical activity to do, which made me a little fat. When I saw this happening to my body, I started running. Every day, I would run 2 miles and I did this until the 7th grade. From daily running, I was able to lose my fat and achieve the 3rd fastest mile time in the 6th grade. This was an achievement that I was very proud of and I could not have done it without running. Then, in the 8th grade, I joined the cross country team for Arcola. Because I had been running so much, I came into the season in good shape. I ended up getting in the top five for the school in every race I ran. Although this achievement was important to me, what mattered the most was that I made many new friends in that time-frame of 2-2.5 months. These friends carried on with me through the spring track season, where I made even more friends! With these friends, I made many enjoyable memories and they could not have happened without running. Due to running, I have been in "tip-top" condition and I have made many friends. With these friends I have made many memories that will carry through with me for the rest of my life. Running has made my life a lot more interesting and fun and I really appreciate my parents for pushing me to run everyday even when I was feeling lazy. Now, I am very

Weighing 225 pounds, I recognized that I needed to lose weight. Losing weight wasn't that much of a challenge because I went to practice and walked five miles home. Now I weigh 170 pounds. In my first 400 meters race, I ran in 56.4 seconds, and I recently ran the same race in only 51 seconds. I went to both championships last year before I failed to qualify for the next round. However, going from nowhere to possibly breaking the school record this year has motivated me to do greater things in life. Even though track wasn't a life-changing experience, the small things I got out of it were important. For example, I lost weight and gained dedication, medals, and friends. I also learned that if I make the effort, tremendous things are…

It took some time, but eventually running became such a big part of my life that I felt incomplete when I didn’t do it. And it’s not just the benefits of running that I enjoy, although there are many. I’ve lost weight. My blood pressure is down. My energy level is up. I look better. I feel better. I sleep better. But on top of all that, I actually love getting out and running. It’s a great excuse to get outside (or into the gym if that’s your preference), listen to music, or just enjoy the…

The energy you I feel when waiting at the start line with 20,000 people who share a common goal is unbelievable. Running through the streets of Los Angeles gives me a different perspective on the city I thought I knew. Above all, running a marathon allowed me to discover more about myself, as you are alone with your thoughts. When completely drained of all physical and mental strength, you discover the drive that motivates you to keep on moving. As a marathon finisher, this drive has led to the realization that I can do anything I set my mind…

An accomplishment that I am very proud of and believe is a strong example of my dedication is the following. When I was twelve I trained for and completed a half marathon. I finished with a time of 1:42 and won the eighteen and under age group. My training for this race included running, biking, and weightlifting. Every night, many times by myself and other times with my mother, I would go out and run or workout. I remember going out Christmas Eve for interval training and then rushing home to make sure I did not miss the Christmas Eve service. The next year I completed another half marathon in 1:32 averaging a 7:09 mile pace. Last year I traveled to Florida to run the Disney Half Marathon and completed it in 1:22 averaging a 6:18 mile. Through hard work and dedication I got 45th out of over 22,000 runners in Disney.…

I have been running since I started Modified Track and Field in the seventh grade. Running has been a part of my life ever since then. When I decided to join track I felt as though it was the worst mistake that I could have ever made, simply because i did not like running as a child. After trying it for the first year and not giving up I enjoyed it very much and that is when I stated that I would continue to run track till I graduated high school. Then came ninth grade and not only did I continue to do Outdoor Track but I also joined Indoor Track and it helped me improve with my running for Outdoor Track. During my time running cross country last year, I attempted to push myself and inspire those around me. Even after the season had ended I wanted to push myself just a bit farther; I accomplished this by running a half marathon. After I had finished, my fellow teammates who did not run felt inspired by me, and they were sure that they wanted to run the same half marathon after the next season. Having inspired them, I felt as if I accomplished much more than running a half marathon. I was able to take a small part in leading them to their future…

For the past six years of my life, I ran for the Eureka Springs High School cross country team. After graduation, I was given the opportunity to run for the Golden Suns cross country team at Arkansas Tech University. In a matter of six months, my cross country experiences and habits were changed. Often times, there are similarities between two subjects such as these, but in this case, only the differences are obvious. There are changes in not only the way that I run, but the team I ran with, the coach I ran under, and the person I am when I run. These changes have caused me to see what I can do as a runner and a college student.…

One of my many happy memories was when I was little and trying each and every sport possible, even wrestling. I have always been active throughout high school playing soccer, basketball, and running track. I was a four year varsity athlete for track & field, along with one year of varsity soccer. Unfortunately I did not play basketball my senior year because of the head coach so I never got to letter. I went to state track for the 4x400m my freshman and sophomore year, which happens to be one of my favorite memories. Being in sports allowed me to make multiple friends while in…
