William H. Danforth, the author of I Dare You!, challenges others to dare. He was a businessman who once was challenged by an elementary teacher. He dares others to become great and search for the greatness within them. This book gives many interesting personal stories that Danforth has encountered throughout his personal and business life.
Danforth discusses a program that he called four fold development. He refers to life as being a perfect square. Each side of the square represents a part of your life: one side is the mental aspect, one side the social aspect, one side the physical aspect, and the one side the religious aspect. Throughout the book Danforth recommends ways to complete a four fold life. He continually states that in order to have a complete, successful life one has to be equal in all of these areas.
Each section of the book focuses on one of the four aspects. Danforth explains each aspect by giving personal accounts on how to achieve balance in each of the areas. I felt that this book was dated. However it did have some value. It was an easily read book that in some ways motivated me. I Dare You!, gave good stories about how individuals overcame adversity and turned their lives around by following the four fold development. This book does not only focus on a school setting, but it does give real life accounts of situations that would apply to many facets of life. I would recommend this book for an administrator's library.
