A Survivor’s Story

I was on my way; there were 20 miles to go till I got to New York. I had come all the from San Jose to purchase approximately 50 million dollars worth of shares in AT&T. On this journey I am being accompanied with my associate, his name was Mike Ross. And me, I’m Harvey Specter extremely proud owner of IBM.

Finally we arrive in New York and the time is 9am on the dot. We make our way to the World Trade Center and of course we get stuck in traffic. So to avoid being late and missing the meeting we rush out of the car and sprint our way to the building, which is in sight but around 2 blocks away. We had to really rush as we had another meeting later on that day in New Jersey. We get to the Trade Center and ask the receptionist which floor AT&T is based on. As soon as we find out we make our way up taking the stairs and not taking any risks of waiting for the elevators. We get to the floor and there is sweat literally leaking from us. But we had no time so we had to go and get this deal done as soon as possible. Then we get in the main office and get straight down to business. Around an hour later we all come to a decision and get down to signing the paperwork. We managed to get a deal of $1.07 per share, which was lower than I expected so I was highly fortunate. But then…

Out of nowhere the building shook and continued to shake. What’s happening I keep asking myself and then scream start to fill and congest my mind, the view from the window covered with thick dark smoke. All of sudden I can almost smell death. I rush out the room to see what the cause of this is and what’s going on and my head become more and more bloated with screams and the emotion of fear. I gaze outside the window and I just stand there and think. How do I get myself out of this? I kept asking myself this and wondered and wondered. Until it struck me the best idea I could think of and it all comes from a children’s movie. Mary Poppins of course. The umbrella scene

Theseus is often seen as the greatest hero in Athens, but is his story that much different than any other hero? The Greek myth “Theseus” is a perfect example of Joseph Campbell’s idea of the Hero’s Journey, also known as Monomyth. Monomyth is the idea that all stories follow a basic pattern, written in twelve stages. The three stages that best demonstrate this idea in Theseus are: Crossing the Threshold; Tests, Allies, Enemies; The Resurrection.…

Not knowing where to go. But feeling the building rumble and shake in my fear of claustrophobia. I remember hearing “GET DOWN! RUN!” Making a quick mover I jumped forward and make a break for the fire exit, it was crowded with men and women crying in pain, I joined them. The only thing I could think about is getting out of this place and Michael. I kept on stumbling down the steps holding on to people on my way down. Feeling a terrible pain in my right thigh, I peered down and saw a big gash of blood and a clear shard. I guess I couldn’t feel it because of all the adrenaline. I didn’t have time for this, only for Michael and escaping. From above a sound of falling concrete and metal bending brought an increase of screams. Maybe that woman from earlier was caught up there, so much for being important. I finally found a clearing of light from the exit. Flooding people out of the exit seemed like a liquid rushing out of a beer bottle. Finally, I made it outside but my matters have only gotten worse, the building was collapsing and I’m under everything. A lady grabbed me from the back and pulled me hard, making me drop down. Dodging a cinderblock, thanking her I ran the opposite way of the building and looking for the closest cover. Glancing back I saw people getting crushed from the construction above. There was no time to think, I had to go. Finding a distant building I took cover with the rest of the citizens praying for their life. “What’s happening?” I hollered. An old man next to me said “an attack.” My eyes widened as I watched the building fully collapse upon hundreds and hundreds of innocent people. “Who would’ve done this?” I asked terrified. The man ignored me as he watched the people were panicking. He might be panicking, but not showing his emotion. I calmed down my breathing and took a drink from a kind man giving out bottles from the café, also bandaging my wound keeping…

Hi, Karen! I'm thrilled to hear back from you! You couldn't have written back at a better time. To be honest, I'm a bit queasy about rereading that last message I wrote because of how all over the place it is and my cringeworthy grammar. If I were to reread this message in another five years might be weirded out just the same. I guess at some point you've got to accept your own quirkiness if you haven't already.…

Screams of excruciating pain interrupted my slumber. Springing up from my sleeping bag, I looked in the direction where I heard the continued sounds of agony, broken bones, and ripping flesh. Quickly scanning the gym with my eyes, I saw that five of Kristine’s survivors became runners. In the bleachers, three of runners dugged their teeths into the survivor’s necks, faces, shoulders, who were lying peacefully and unexpected in their sleeping bags. In the middle of the gym’s basketball court, two more runners’ yanked meat and muscles from survivor’s faces, as the survivors attempted to fight back, however their attempts were useless, the runner’s strength over powered theirs. As one runner, in the middle of the gym, swallowed a survivor’s nose,…

Elisabeth Stuart Phelps captures the essence of time when “ young ladies had not begun to have ‘opinions’ upon the doctrine of evolution, and before feminine friendships and estrangements were founded on the distinctions between protoplasm and bioplasm” (Phelps 8). She writes a kunstlerroman novel of young woman who has the ability to go far with her artistic talent and looses her inspiration after being married. Another author who tackles similar issues is Louisa May Alcott and her novel “Little Women”. Alcott conveys different perceptions for women and conventions what they must adhere to. Conventions in this retrospect deals with ideology that at a certain age young women give up their what is determined, a ‘childhood passion’ to assume the role of a wife. Both Phelps’s novel “ The Story of Avis” and Alcott’s “ Little Women” brings forth the idea that women through marriage were being suppressed and abused by the social constraints that has been set for them. Also, the role of mother, wife and then a person conflicts with any aspirations for being financially independent and/ or a woman seeking a creative lifestyle. A more contemporary type thinking might question this by asking why cant women have the best of worlds, a family and a career? However, Phelps and Alcott works speaks for them by giving us a realistic and creative outlook on domestic life for women who want both.…
