He Is Not That Into You: A Whirlpool of Emotions
Watching the film He is not that into you left me with a whilrpool of emotions.
The movie brought me back to a few years of my life of dating scenes in Singapore.

Even though dating can be superficial, to some extent I remember getting my feelings involved and getting really hurt but also hurting guys without thinking twice about it. I will never forget how awful and small and devastated I felt when I realized that W.E a smart guy was JUST NOT THAT INTO ME. I also remember ignoring some people instead of facing up to unwanted suitors with the unattractive truth.

The worst part about this idea that he is just not that into you is that if you really accept it and let it get under your skin, you can ruin something real and meaningful when it comes around. I have questioned many relationships and doubted many sincere guys because i feel like, there is no way he can be that into me. Plus it really irks me how much power men have: men decide when to call and when to ask us out which makes women submissive and passive recipients of male affection.

In He 's Just Not That Into You, Greg Behrendt offers his no-nonsense point of view regarding the "reasons" men give to women regarding why they don 't want to commit.
In short, the "reasons" that men give are really excuses, as Greg points over and over again. Liz Tuccillo responds to Greg 's insight and ads her admittance to times when she has given off a desperate vibe while calling a Guy and not waiting for him to call. Those relationships have not worked out for her.
Main Chapters, and My Interpretations of Them (What I learned):

1 He 's Just Not That Into You If He 's Not Asking You Out

A man that seems to be nice, friendly, and polite to you and hangs out with you all the time does really like you. It 's just that he is not into you as a girlfriend, or even less he does not think of you as a potential marriage partner at all. 2 He 's Just Not That Into You If He 's Not Calling You
If a woman

For the purpose of this essay I will be using a current client, so to hide his identity he will be called Mr. A. Mr. A is a young male who is currently having difficulties in being able to partake in long term relationships with females. He finds it difficult to commit because he is afraid of getting hurt. He therefore just sleeps with many different women keeping his emotions at bay. Mr. A however does want to have a relationship and “stop messing with girls, and treat them in the same way that I want to be treated”. Mr. A says he has been hurt in the past by a female he was in love with. He idolised her in every way and thought she was perfect. She left him with no explanation or reason and never spoke to him again, and Mr. A has not been able to move on from this since.…

In the movie He’s Just Not That into You, there were six relationships that were formed based on communication or a lack of communication. The couples presented in the movie are, Alex and Gigi, whose relationship began as a friendship. Ben and Janine, who have been together since college and are married. Ben and Anna, who had a share of intimacy with each other although Ben was married to Janine. Beth and Neil, they were together for 7 years but have yet to get married due to Neil’s “beliefs”. Connor and Anna, were the “could have been” couple. Connor liked Anna a lot, but Anna maintained a friends with benefits relation with him. Lastly, Connor and Mary accidentally turned their business relationship into a full blown intimate relationship. Every relationship has a starting point, a middle point and ending phase. All parts of a relationship can be proven and backed up by the interpersonal relationship stages, theories, and communication, or interpersonal conflict and conflict management.…

This is because men dont usually like to look the other person in the eye much when they are being spoken to. They are more easily distracted by their surroundings, and so their eyes tend to wander around. An example is given between a guy and his girlfriend where the man would lie down on the floor and cover his eyes with his arms when his girlfriend was talking to him. This gave the girlfriend the impression that her boyfriend was taking a nap and completely ignoring her. In actuallity, he is trying to concentrate by blocking his vision from surrounding distractions. When women talk, they tend to stay on one topic, whereas men like to jump from one topic to the next. This leads to the next point that the author makes, which says that men often switch topics. This gives the woman the impression that they are not really listening. Men’s coversation dont normally last very long, but women tend elaborate much in a within a…

According to Tannen men often get frustrated with the conversational tendencies of women. Tannen states, “Men who expect silent attention interpret a stream of listener noise as overreaction or impatience” (210). This can lead to arguments within the relationship, leading women to believe in disloyalty within the conversation if her significant other takes the time of “pointing out the other side of the argument” (210). Tannen also describes this matter as men taking a woman’s complaining for too literally which can lead into more…

The cockiness of guys in this world is crazy. Guys think it is so easy getting a girl by telling her that she is pretty or giving other compliments. These men are thirsty. A man would fall into the thirsty category if he is constantly trying to talk to a girl or trying to get her attention. A perfect example on the thirstiness of males is Facebook. Majority of girls have experienced a Facebook message from a random dude they don’t really know. The typical, “Hey I just wanted to let you know you’re really cute, we should get to know each other. ;)” Messages like that scream thirst. The guy might as well be honest and just tell the girl he wants to get in her pants. If a guy talks like this, STAY AWAY. He is thirsty and only wants a one night stand. A thirsty guy is a dirty guy.…

But the misperceptions that our society gives about romance tends to throw us off track. We’re not given just one outlook or point of view of what romance is, we’re given several. Which is why men and women are never really on the same page when it comes to this type of thing. Romance is put out to be this sort of fairy tale when in reality it takes a lot of work to keep a relationship from falling apart. Not to mention dedication. When it comes to romance, emotions and feelings get involved. Giving your all to a person is hard to do because you don’t know what to expect. A person’s true intentions are never really clear in the beginning. So taking the chance of giving someone your all and not knowing what to expect in return is a scary thing. But it’s a chance that all of us take at some point in…

Love Actually (2003), is a romantic comedy/drama that combines over ten romantic tales in one. What makes this a unique ‘chick flick’ is that all of these individual stories have different love styles and relationship types. The movie links these characters together in a series of touching and comedic romances, which end in not one, but many idealistic climaxes on Christmas Eve. The theme of the movie is an elaboration of the title, "Love Actually Is All Around”, meaning that everywhere you look, love is the driving force in people's lives.…

    Broken Family

I agree. A lot of men these days seem to be looking for just a woman on their arm, to show off, to have sex with, marry just for the sake of marrying, without having an ounce of conviction. They do not understand that getting married and having a family is hard work, requiring a lot of personal sacrifice. I think part of the problem is that they were raised by a generation of "parents" that allowed them too much liberties. What has resulted is a new generation of young men AND women who treat relationships too frivolously. Rather than staying with one person and working on a long-lasting relationship built on trust and care, they grow restless and leave, just because of a few bad arguments or mistrust. People put too much emphasis on romantic love----you see it in the…

A communications expert, Simma Lieberman stated, “Women are more relationship-oriented than men and find things in common with others when forming relationships.” When it comes to relationships and communication the track record for males goes to show that they aren’t engaged into the conversation as much as a female is. Females are into their feelings, not avoiding details and making sure everything is talked out whereas males care, but they aren’t into the details and they just want to get down to the point, state facts and fix the problem so they can go move on from that specific problem.…

Men are clueless creatures when it comes to planning and carrying out a good first date. It seems that some have no idea how to act, what to do, where to go, or what to wear on a date. I am not speculating about this by any means; it is something I have learned from personal experience. I have had my fair share of bad dates, really bad dates, and even horrible disastrous dates. However, when thinking back there is one in particular that stands out among all the rest. This one lives in infamy as the most disastrous date I have ever experienced in my thirty five years of life.…
