In a Raisin in the sun people wondered about Walter Lee’s inner journey. A Raisin in the sun is a play that explorer’s the struggles of African American people who achieve their desires. It’s about an African American family trying to pursue an American dream of owning their own home but in the process they encounter racism and they must decide what is really important in life.
Walter Lee’s inner journey is a man who lives with his mother and sister and his wife and Walter lee’s not satisfied of what he once owned and he doesn’t want to be a poor homeless chauffer for the rest of his life. He hates to live in a small ghetto area where his son sleeps and where he has to use the living room as a kitchen, Walter lee has dreams of bigger and better things and he wants to also become a business man to live as a “rich” white close to a thousand mile. The journey begins on first steps to opening his own business and being his own boss with lots of opportunity. The play revolves around him and the decision that he makes.. Throughout this play Walter also provides an everyman perspective of the mid-twentieth-century of an African-American male. He is a typical man of the family who struggles to support it and who tries to discover new, and better schemes and moves to secure its economic prosperity. Throughout the Difficulties and barriers that obstruct his and his family’s progress to maintain his family happy frustrates Walter. And He believes that money will solve all of their problems, but he is rarely successful with money. Walter often fights and argues with Ruth, Mama, and Beneatha .and he is far from being a good listener,he does not seem to understand that he must pay attention to his family members’ concerns in order to help them.
