English Expository SAC- Inner Journeys
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”
The purpose of this expository piece is to explore various effects of a journey that is initiated from a single step. The argument will be presented using previous texts studied in class in relation to the prompt “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. The intended audience is to people of all ages, but specifically to students studying the concepts of inner journeys.
All human beings experience some sort of transition in their life, whether it be ones search of self identity or the need for change. An inner journey can have both positive and negative effects on an individual. Some believe that an inner journey which begins with a single step may not be as significant as one that is triggered as a result of a compilation of events as decisions are not thought through whilst others conclude that a journey that is travelled as a cause of one particular movement could bring about new experiences and a discovery of one’s inner capabilities. There are various types of journeys a person can undergo, these range from emotional, physical, spiritual and intellectual. All these journeys have one aspect in common. They all require the careful evaluation of risk-taking in order to benefit from the journey. A journey of great significance requires a starting point; just like a thick tree grows from a tiny seed.
An inner journey that is initiated with a single step can have positive and negative effects on an individual. These effects are influenced by the nature of the situation. When accepting to travel a journey that is based on one specific event one must be able to assess the consequences or benefits of their decision before taking action.
