A GREAT AMERICAN MILITARY LEADER
GENERAL COLIN POWEL

I selected General Colin Powell because he was one of the Greatest Army Leaders of my time. He had along and very productive career in the United States Army, Achieving the Highest rank possible Four Star General and attaining the position of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. General Powell came from a not so glorious childhood and but throughout his life and achieved more goals in his life that most ordinary people do in theirs. He is married and has two Children.

General Colin Powel was born on April 5th 1937 in Harlem, New York. His Parents emigrated from Jamaica. He attended public school in South Bronx and graduated in 1954 which I know in those days was not the easiest feat around. He always maintained his academics and never steered in the wrong path and ended up on the wrong side of the law. As a teenager General Powell worked at a baby furniture store and learned to speak Yiddish, another language. After he graduated from High School, he enrolled in City College of New York where he received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in geology and afterwards earned a Masters of Business Administration degree. General Powel admitted he was a C average student and was not one of the top ranking or straight A student. He went to school and was like any normal student.

General Collin Powel Joined ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) while in College and Joined the United States Army in 1958 as a second lieutenant. He held many positions while in the Army and served two combat tours in Vietnam. One of his greatest accomplishments was during the Gulf War as one of the leading Generals during the Operation Desert Storm. While in Vietnam he was an Advisor to the South Vietnamese Army on his first tour from 1962-1963 and second tour was as an assistant operations officer from 1968-1969. His last combat tour was as one of the Leading Generals during the Gulf War in Operation Desert storm...
