For instance, If it wasn’t for Ruby Bridges taking the Board test and going to a school for whites we could still have segregated schools. Ruby Bridges showed that other african americans can go to a school with White Americans. Even though White Americans weren’t used to having an African American in their class they got used to it eventually. At the end of the movie one of the other teachers realized that it wasn’t that bad to teach an African American and wanted…

The thing that really caught my eyes and the way I felt was the selfishness of the students that were their. In addition to this, one day as the lunch bell rang and as the students are racing to win the front spot in line, I took my time simply because my mom made me lunch. As I was eating, I noticed a kid next to me with no food, so inside I felt bad and so I offered him my whole entire lunch. The funny thing is, the very next day at lunch time, guess who didn’t have food this time? Yeah me! So sitting their expecting the same kid I offered food too the previous day to give me some of his, he doesn’t even bother looking at me.…

Spike Lee once said, just because you live in the same city, doesn’t mean you will have the same experiences. Everyone grows up in different households and learn the lessons about life; some lessons that are moral lessons, some are not. The lesson that I have learned is that you should always treat others the way you want to be treated. This class has helped me reflect on my own life and made me realize that racism steal goes on today. People’s mindset are stuck on the past and not embracing the present of progression.…

Jane Elliott’s Class divided was a good lesson to show caucasian people how it feels to be African American in the segregated times in America. Elliot’s goal was to have white people realize that we are all human being and we should not be treated as less just based off of our skin color or any other personal characteristics. Personally, I feel the experiment was essential, especially with that young age group. Racism is a learned behavior that was developed throughout the white society. When children at a young and growing age learn how it feels to be discriminated against, they most likely would not carry it on to their adult life. The teacher is showing the children that they could possible play or live in harmony with African Americans because they are also human beings. The only thing that makes the African American and themselves different is an individual characteristic similar to eyes.…

The event that we attended in class was, "Revisiting Racism: Equity, Diversity & Inclusion in "Post Racial America" - Guest Speaker Bryant K. Smith." His Motto was "make good people great, and great people memorable." Mr. Smith spoke about various things such as race, whiteness, othering theory, pop cultures, oversimplification of United States History and how all those play a role in contemporary racism. He "revisited them," by giving us information on each topic. The topics that stood out to me were race and the oversimplification of United States History it was interesting to see how they play a role in how racism is seen in our society. The examples that Mr. Smith used in order to educate us on these topics were very eyeopening, for the…

I learned many new things from this video. I learned that many people died in the black’s non-violent revolution for freedom and rights. I also learned that most African Americans were paid an average of only about $700. African Americans were denied education at all white schools, and were only allowed a less than average education at black schools. Under the Supreme Court ruling in Brown vs. Board of Education, a number of African American Honors students integrated Little Rock Central High School in 1957. Every day they had to endure abuse from a huge angry mob that protested integration and wanted segregation. I feel that I would not have been able to put up with all that abuse. Those nine students that integrated Central High had great determination and never gave up hope. I also learned that it was a very long and hard struggle for all blacks during the Civil Rights Movement. The KKK terrorized blacks and killed them. Many African Americans were killed before they won the rights that they deserve. I was very proud of all the African Americans that participated in things like the Montgomery bus boycott because it showed that they weren’t afraid of standing up for themselves. I felt joyful that they always had the courage to stay non-violent, because if they turned to violence, the situation would not have turned out the same way. Now I will do anything that I can to eliminate discrimination of anyone because it is a very serious and destructive…

When I walked into the presentation tonight I had no idea what to expect. During the movie the professor was arrested because he was setting up a small group outside of town top stop the inequality and segregation, several of the people who attended this meeting were lynched. This movie was meant to have meaning behind it and show emotion through the debates about the racial inequality. Each of the team members has powerful words that gives specific examples how lynching and segregation occurs, As Samantha booke states in one of her debates against a prejudice team ” As long as schools are segregated, Negroes will receive an education that is both, separate and unequal.” The power of that quote, should make a lot of people think about what segregation was like and how the education was unequal and unfair. Although this movie is about winning the debates it is meant to have endless emotions about segregation as Samantha relays in several of her…

In the documentary “I am not Your Negro” directed by Raoul Peck, the most memorable moment for me is the section focuses on integration at American public school. It is difficult for me to believe that many people march on the street only because an African American girl is going to school with the white kids, and I feel really angry and shocked when people are saying things like “when a negro child walk into the school, all decent parents should take their white children out of the broken school”, or “God can forgive adultery, but he is angry about integration ”. Even though those comments and events can have a huge impact on social discrimination and hurt to African American, they are real things that happened in the American history, and…

The teacher, Jane Elliot, was very courageous for trying to have the kids go through something as bold as this in their time. She did the experiment in the 1960’s in Iowa which was a rough time for minorities, especially with the Civil Rights Movement. Also, I can’t help but speculate that she might have had threats on her life for such an experiment and being a minority as a woman may have contributed to that. In her time this made her community upset at her, as I would imagine it might still make some communities upset in less accepting states.…
