A Child Called “It”
This book talked about a child named David was abused and beaten by his mother. Although he was treated like a slave, he never gave up to survive. In the past, David owned a happiness family with his parents and brothers. However, his mother transformed herself into a devil suddenly. She treated him not like her son, but like an “it”. David suffered both mental and physical abuse. In order to survive from his mother’s sick game, David used willpower. Through all of her torturous game, David’s inner strength began to emerge. David’s father was a coward man. He did nothing even if he was awarded of what had happened to his son. At last, he chose to leave him. Psychological Urie Bronfenbrenner has proposed an alternative perspective, the bioecological approach. It suggests that there are four levels of the environment that simultaneously influence individuals. We can analysis how David effect with these systems. The Microsystems:

Mother: “Mother would ‘forget’ to feed me any dinner. Breakfast wasn’t much better.” (P47-48) David’ mother didn’t give David food to eat so that David usually starve in a day. It made David to have to look for food or steal his classmates’ food. Father: “Father was my only hope, and he did all he could to sneak me scraps of food.” (P50) David’s father tried to give David food kept away from David’s mother. It made little David to think father could give his enough food. On the other hand, David knew his father was timid and not brave to fight to David’s mother. Brothers: “Even though Russell was only four or five years old at the time, he had become Mother’s ‘Little Nazi,’ watching my every move, making sure I didn’t steal any food.” (P )David’s brother treated David as his mother. He looked how David was punished but never helped him. In this book, David referred to his brothers less time. They didn’t give him any help during the past periods. It made David not to close with his brothers....
