Introduction
This report analyzes the internationalization and the global business model of Zumba Fitness project.
The first section provides the interpretation of Zumba’s internationalization explaining what internationalization model was chosen. The second part emphasizes the success of Zumba’s business model.
Data and analytics are derived from primary and secondary research.
The report finishes off with a short conclusion on the success of Zumba’s project.
The internationalization of Zumba
There are three major models of internationalization:
Uppsala internationalization model
Transaction cost analysis model
Network model
Initially Uppsala internationalization model fitted best the internationalization of Zumba.
Zumba’s Uppsala internationalization model was based on: experiential learning and incremental decision-making process
This confirmation can be proved by:
The original plan of Zumba fitness was based on producing VHS workout tapes and DVDs of Zumba classes to sell in in the US. The sales of videos showing the techniques of Zumba dancing increased and Zumba fitness became popular among people who were willing to be Zumba instructors. Realizing this business opportunity Zumba fitness decided to provide Zumba fitness classes who are interested in dancing and sport and to create in the future its network of instructors, the so called ZINs.
The decision was made incrementally with no influence from competitive market factors but based on Zumba’s own experiential learning.
Psychic distance between home country and international markets (initially, before 2001 and at the very beginning of 2001)
Initially Zumba was not accepted and DVDs were sold unsuccessfully

    Zumba is a fitness program inspired by hot Latin style dancing. The exercises include Hip-hop, Salsa, Mambo, and Samba. Zumba is a fast-paced and high energy workout for people who love to dance. Zumba workouts have a high-energy ''party'' feel to them which gives you that extra boost to get through the class. I remember the first Zumba class in which I ever set foot at Bailey's Powerhouse Gym. The instructor was so full of energy and the room was over flowing with girls and a few guys shaking their hips and laughing over pulsing Latin and hip-hop beats. When the first song started, I wondered what I had gotten myself into, and thought about how I could get out of this class quickly, but I decided to stick it out .When class ended, I walked out drenched in sweat with a smile on my face. I thought “that was the best workout class ever,” and I couldn't wait for the next Zumba class to begin. The class was 60 minutes of sweaty adrenaline fun. Working out could be both productive and fun. Zumba has made me start to view exercise as a hobby rather than a chore. Since that class two years ago, I've taken Zumba many times with many different instructors. I've taken some amazing classes that were fun, entertaining, and so enjoyable that I lost track of time. There also were some miserable classes with a poor instructor, no one is enjoying themself, and time lags in the longest hour of my life.     As Ghemawat describes it, companies erroneously utilize an antiquated and incorrect modality when deciding on foreign expansion: the country portfolio analysis (CPA). The CPA focuses on national GDP, levels of consumer wealth, and people’s propensity to consume but ignores “the costs and risks of doing business in the market.” These costs are grouped into a category classified as “distance” which itself is sub-divided into four dimensions: cultural distance, administrative distance, geographic distance, and economic distance [CAGE]. Ghemawat proceeds to list factors that influence distance and industries that are affected by the specific dimension. These results are framed in an artificially created schematic: the CAGE Distance Framework.     As I said before, I expected to just learn the basic poses. However, I didn’t expect to learn the actual names of the poses or what the purpose of each pose was; I never realized there was a reason to each pose or any actual benefit. I didn’t expect to be using so many different muscles that I would be sore the next day and would be able to repeat the poses without any further instruction. I came into this class expecting it to be easy in the sense that the poses would be done once and then forgotten but I’ve learned that we need to continuously do the poses in order to understand the meaning and reap the benefits and gain the strength. This class is very different than any other fitness classes I have taken at Temple because I can take the poses and techniques I have learned in class and bring them to my home and outside class to practice.
