Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Tiger Woods, Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps, Adrian Peterson, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Michael Vick. What do these people have in common? Besides all of them being the best at what they do professionally they are all members of the Nike family. And then theres adidas who sponsors…. Your guess is as good as mine. But so what, who cares if nike sponsors all of the best and most popular athletes in the world does that make the brand better then all others. That all depends on your definition of better, if you think better is being able to buy a shirt from a brand for 5 bucks then nike is not better. On the other hand if you want to walk into a room and be noticed as a baller proudly wear that swoosh on your shirt, shorts, or anything else nike is the way to go. I surveyed 40 people from Georgia State university and 84% said nike catches their attention quicker than any other sports brand. I know that when I see somebody wearing reebok or adidas I say in my head there goes another lame. Nike isn’t just the most popular brand in America but also in countries like Japan, Canada, and China. it is the top selling manufacturer of athletic shoes and apparel in the world raking in 18.6 billion dollars in the 2008 fiscal year. But enough with the stats. What do real people actually prefer. I was surprised to find several surveys on the internet claiming people prefered to buy adidas over nike but when I read on it said that people generally preferred to buy adidas because it was cheaper but they agreed that nike was better quality and better for performance. Out of the top ten basketball shoes of all time 7 of them are nike owned. Nike controls 20% of the American shoe market and employs 500,000 people worldwide.
