My twelfth birthday happen to fall on a Sunday, which was the same Sunday Area-Wide Youth Week started. Since that day, I have been an active member in the Area-Wide Baptist Youth Week movement. Somehow I knew that was just the beginning. From the moment I stepped foot into the doors of Youth Week, I wanted to be more than just an observer, I wanted t experience each and every moment. Eventually I was blessed to serve as youth secretary.
Youth Week has influenced my life in numerous ways. My youth week experience has made me more confident in myself, bolder in speaking before others, and has helped me become more organized. When I think back about my childhood, I wondered why we had to attend church every Sunday and then go to Youth Week and have church again. I now know without Sunday morning service, and Youth Week, and other Christian activities following, I could have been another statistic for young black youth. One who is on the street, or doing drugs, or a youth that is just lost. I thank GOD and everyone that is a part of making Youth Week possible because who knows where our young people in today’s generation would be.
Area-Wide has helped and inspired young people in many different ways. I have witnessed youth walking into church with a broken heart, sad face, or not knowing what to do, or who to turn to, and have walked out with a smile and such gratitude. Area-Wide is fun and it is a great way to meet new people. During Area-Wide Youth Week you see a mixture of people there. You see old friends as well as new friends, former pastors and former youth week workers. Its effect is lasting because those who attended during their time and have
