Youth Sports
“Sports are for fun, but they also offer benefits and lessons that carry
over into all aspects of life” (Metzl).   In this modern era of technology and having everything made to make life as easy for humans as possible, children lack motivation to exercise and the children are less motivated to be physically fit.   This is a serious problem in today’s society, but fortunately, there is a simple solution: youth sports. Although not everyone sees involvement in sports as being necessary, it is important for children to participate in sports because sports help keep the children healthy, it helps form the children into well rounded individuals, it helps the children develop and learn life skills that help them in school and in their social lives, and it teaches the children how to set and achieve their goals.
Physical activity through sports provides many benefits for children such as preventing childhood obesity. “The prevalence of obesity among children aged 6 to 11 more than doubled in the past 20 years” (Health Topics Childhood Obesity) Childhood obesity is growing at an alarming rate America.   Childhood obesity is one of the main reasons why many kids will have health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol when they are adults or at an early age.   High cholesterol, high blood pressure, arthritis, fatty deposits in the liver, and Type II diabetes are all common findings in overweight children (Drucker). These diseases were once thought to only affect adults, but now the diseases are very common in children also.. In addition to these diseases, the extra adipose tissue (a kind of body tissue containing stored fat that serves as a source of energy) found in overweight prepubescent youths affects their hormonal balance ( Drucker).
