Dream Analysis

When I was little I used to always have the same dream. I was at my grandparent’s old house and it was the middle of the night in their front yard. I was wondering around and when I looked up into the sky there was this huge white bird flying around the mood and the roof of the house. When it finally landed by this pond, I would walk up to it and I just stand there for what seemed like hours. I don’t remember ever talking in the dream or the bird making noises, but about two years later the dream changed. After the bird landed by the pond, this business guy in a tall hat comes up and tries to buy the bird from me, I didn’t let him and the bird flew away. I haven’t had the dream in a while, and I don’t think there’s any latent content connected to this dream. The manifest content is that I really enjoyed being at my grandparent’s house when I was little, I still don’t why there was a huge bird flying around. I’m a weird sleeper, and I think it affects my dreaming. I usually get around seven or eight hours of sleep a night, not including the time I wake up in the middle of the night, which is around 4:30 or 5:00 am. I never take naps, I think I wouldn’t sleep as well if I took a nap in the middle of the day or when I get home from school. I’d be up all night and I’d sleep less. And even worse I can’t sleep in on the weekends anymore, for one I have work on the weekends and two, I just naturally wake up at 7:00 in the morning anyway. So my sleeping schedule is pretty constant. Before I even think of closing my eyes before I go to sleep, I have to have noise playing around me; I can’t turn my mind off without something distracting it. The sound of something playing around me just brings that comfort level around and it’s easier to crash out. I never really have a constant feeling when I wake up, some nights I sleep better than others; I think it just depends on what position I fell asleep in. And that all

Sleeping is something we spend doing approximately one third of our human life cycle and can vary in quality from one night to another and have a tremendous impact on our daily performance when we awake the next morning by either having a lousy day or having a productive day. “Some 70 million people in the United States have a sleep problem. There are many things that have been assumed about sleep over thousands of years. There have been many changing ideas on the reasons that we sleep. There have also been many assumptions made about what happens during sleep. Titas Lucretius Carus had a very interesting view on sleep. Lucretius was a poet who wrote on ideas of science topics as well. To understand what Lucretius says in his writing “The Nature of Sleep”, one must understand the time that this was written. This selection came from a book called “On the Nature of Things”, which was written in 50 b.c. Lucretius had some similar viewpoints that people today find true and some that may seem very strange and hard…

Studying my sleep habits this week has been a an eye opener. I learned so much about my body in the last seven days. I learned that I responded better to waking up to an alarm, then someone coming in my room to wake me up. On an average, I got about seven hours of sleep a day. I was able to sleep more on days I did not have to workout for football. A trend I noticed is that I felt better in the morning, if I went to bed before 11:00 pm. Another trend I learned is I fall asleep faster when I took my socks off. I wasn't able to go to sleep due to the lack of comfort of the socks on my feet . I slept a lot better when I turned off the lights and played music. I didn't sleep well with a lot of clothes on. I found myself waking…

Butterflies are know for the mass migration they travel to get to where they are today. However, what happens to how they get to those places and does it affect anything? In The Butterfly Effect, (Hernandez) and A Sound of Thunder, (Bradbury) there is a simple cause-and-effect theory in which changes how things are thought about forever. Everything done is the cause of something else which happens to have an effect on something else. The effect is timeless. When both stories are dissected, it is told that everything has a “butterfly effect”, which causes to effect on what happens in the future, and can lead to the change of evolution. For thousands of years, sleeping and dreaming have been two major topics that hold great interest in many scientific fields of study. However, only recently has modern technology advanced to a point where it has made an in-depth study of sleep and dreams possible. In 1937 Alfred Lee Loomis, a renowned American scientist and physicist, used an electroencephalogram to monitor a sleeping test subject’s electrical brain activity during non-rapid eye movement sleep (“Sleep Disorders and Sleep Deprivation: An Unmet Public Health Problem”, par. 7). Following this, in 1953 Nathaniel Kleitman, a physiologist and sleep researcher, discovered REM sleep or rapid eye movement sleep.…
