INTRODUCTION:
Yahoo! Inc. is a global company for Internet communications, commerce and media. It offers a comprehensive network of services to more than 700 million[1] individuals worldwide. The website, www.yahoo.com, was first developed in 1994 by David Filo and Jerry Yang, while they were graduate students at Stanford University. The name Yahoo! is an acronym for "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle," but the founders chose the name because they liked the general definition of a yahoo: "crude, brutish, unsophisticated person."[2] Yahoo! Inc. was incorporated in 1995 as a Delaware corporation. It is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, and has offices in more than 30 countries. A major portion of Yahoo!’s offerings are available in more than 45 languages across 60 countries. With a unique blend of science, art and scale, Yahoo! provides customized digital content and experience to a wide variety of customers, across countries and devices. Yahoo! offers products and services which can be classified into three broad categories: 

We will focus on the Search Division in our report. We have analy sed and given recommendations for their strategy, organization structure and issues arising from frequent restructuring. Introduction to Yahoo! Search:

Yahoo! Search, launched on March 1, 1995, is a free search service provided to users.[3] Yahoo! Search offers search interface in at least 38 international markets and a variety of languages. It has a presence in Europe, Asia and across the Emerging Markets apart from the US.

Yahoo! Search offers rich search results which are ranked and organized based on relevance to an individual’s search query. Sponsored search results are present as a subset of the overall search results and they provide links to the paying advertisers’ websites or web pages. A few other related features include Search Direct, contextual search results, site filters and related topic suggestions.

Main divisions of Yahoo! Search:
Core Search: This refers to the search engine and related services. Yahoo! Search is the 2nd largest search directory on the web by query volume, at 6.36%, after its competitor Google at 81.69%.[4]

BOSS: This stands for Build your Own Search Service. Started in July 2008, this is Yahoo!'s open search and data services platform. It allows start-ups, developers and larger companies to use Yahoo!'s system for indexing information and data to create their own custom search engine. In order to use BOSS, a flexible usage fee is charged. Distribution: Search distribution generates search volume for Yahoo! through different tactical initiatives. These initiatives can be divided into two areas:
