How can adults develop children’s confidence and self-esteem through effective communication?
Task 1

In this essay we are going to look at how adults through effective communication can build up children's confidence and self – esteem. I am going to concentrate on 0 – 2 and 4 – 5 year age groups.
Rai L and Flynn R (2008, p. 21) state that 'babies are beginning   to communicate and interact through facial expression, noises and movement which are made in response to the action of other people.' And as they grew in to 4 – 5 years 'play is more familiar way of communication than talking' as suggested by Rai L and Flynn R (2008).   The points made above seem to show that to have competent communication with younger children that is is more non verbal thorough play and actions rather then verbal communication and that the child can initiate the communication between them and an adult.
Babies from the start require a relationship with people and can show emotions and as suggested by Rai L and Flynn R (2008) 'play a full part in family life'   but it is only in the last 30 years that this has been shown. As in the past they believed that babies had very limited capability so they thought that babies could not feel pain, see or hear properly and they could not think at all but now   'the importance of human contact, love and stimulation for all babies is now well established ' as stated   by Rai L and Flynn R (2008, p. 17).
To help build babies self esteem and confidence an adults has to 'provide plenty of eye contact and talk lovingly to babies and give them the opportunity to respond' as recommended by Rai L and Flynn R (2008). In this there is a mixture of   communication that an adult can give to a baby to help with confidence and self-esteem. It can be verbal in just talking to them in a manner which shows kindness and love but also non verbal with eye contact and plenty of physical contact. By helping promote development through these ways as suggested by   Rai L... [continues]
