When researching the “Virtual Organization” website, there were several businesses, schools, government and healthcare organizations that were very interesting. After reading the websites from a few on each tab, I have chosen Hoffman Trucking.
Hoffman Trucking is based out of Cleveland, Ohio and has three HUB’s which are located in Los Angeles, St. Louis and Bayonne. When Hoffman Trucking was founded back in 1936, it was a time of the depression and they started out with only one single tractor trailer (Virtual Organizations, 2011). After the growth of internal sales and the acquisition of five carriers, Hoffman Trucking has grown to be the profitable and adaptive company it sought out to become.
With current moral and ethical issues that might be faced by Hoffman Trucking, there are numerous topics that have to deal with drivers, consumers and employees. With drivers, they have to have a Class A Commercial license, good driving record, 20/40 vision in each eye and pass a physical exam (eHow, 2011). These are just a few of the requirements that trucking driving employees have to maintain to be driving safely on the United States Highways. The issues that will arise with drivers is that they could have invalid driving records, an expired drivers licenses or on probation for DWI. There are several ethical issues that can come into play when a company is pressured by the consumer for deliveries and time frames. A moral issue is whether one should put their company at risk when they employees may know information regarding a driver, records, etc….
With the ethical issues with consumers, the trucking company is hired to deliver goods from point A to point B. It is their job to keep records of the product that is carried across state lines for transport. If a trailer is picked up on the border and carried to Oklahoma with the manifest reporting cucumbers and the driver and scheduler know there are illegal aliens in the crates, it would an ethical...
