Part one Cultural Differences in Transnational Business

The world is moving away from self-contained national economies toward an interdependent, integrated global economic system. And this is called ‘Globalization’. With the trend of the globalization, the “multinational corporation” is not an unfamiliar term anymore. This kind of corporation is registered in more than one country or that has operations in more than one country. It is a large corporation which both produces and sells goods or services in various countries. Because it concerns to different countries in the same corporation, cultural difference is a matter of thing which can not be ignored.

1 the introduction of cultural differences in transnational business Thanks to globalization, we are likely to work with Japanese, French, English, German and all sorts of other nationalities. In the large transnational corporation, managers must deal with multiple ethnic groups with very different cultures. It is important to recognize that people from different cultures are different in a variety of ways. For instance, they have different ways of viewing things, different ways of dressing and different ways of expressing personality. What may be considered perfectly acceptable and natural in the workplace of one country, can be considered confusing or even offensive in the workplace of other country. Each country has its own cultural standards of being, thinking, and acting, and these cultural differences strongly influence workplace values and business communication.

We have identified this phenomenon mentioned above as “cultural difference in transnational business”. We should understand the culture difference in transnational business. Understanding cultural differences is essential for companies involved in international business.

When it comes to international business, understanding cultural differences and promoting cultural sensitivity will help ensure that communication across borders is effective and that business transactions are successful. It’s our duty to recognize the difference between various cultures, make full use of its benefits and avoid the adverse effects which it may also brings.
