Wrestling in the Olympics
Recently, the decision has been made to remove wrestling from the Olympics in the year 2020. This heavily debated decision was made because it is said that wrestling does not produce enough ticket sales and is not popular enough on the global scale. Therefore, it has been proposed that it be replaced with karate or rock climbing. With this major change in the Olympics, many people are going to suffer, such as returning Olympic placers or even nations that are successful in wrestling. Wrestling should not be removed from the Olympics because it is a historical part of the Olympics. Wrestling was one of the first five sports in the Olympics and the oldest sport still remaining in it today. Wrestling also helps in everyday life. As a great wrestler and coach Dan Gable said “Once you've wrestled, everything else in life is easy.” (www.brainyquote.com)This quotation personifies the soul of wrestling and shows that wrestling is the perfect sport .Wrestling doesn’t discriminate, no matter your body type or height or weight there is a spot for you in wrestling. All that matters in wrestling is being tough and having the desire to win. Also, wrestling is a coeducational sport meaning that both men and women can compete in it. These factors combine to make wrestling the perfect sport for the world to join in together for competition. The removal of wrestling from the Olympics may remove a large motivating factor for dedicated wrestlers to work hard. The Olympics rule committee have decided to remove wrestling from the Olympics because they think that other events can bring in more money; however, wrestling is one of the most toughest sports mentally and physically and is a combination of speed, strength, agility, hard work, and dedication, it is a perfect Olympic sport for the modern world, wrestling should not be removed from the Olympics.
