Statement of purpose or intent
This paper is about the first World War or as other names for it the Great War. My research paper will answer the following question “What new inventions did the war encourage?” it is important for the people to know the major events in history that changed and influenced the world as we know it today. For my question I will be talking about some of the major inventions such as the trenches, poison gas and flamethrowers. These inventions changed the people and their behaviors in to becoming more barbarian than the world ever saw before.

When people are living in a peaceful area and the political system crumbles in one night the greatest war people ever saw started. This is what happened in 1914 the war just started and it was the first time in mankind’s history to see a war between all these countries at once. The war started on the twenty eight of July 1914 and it ended on the eleventh of November 1918. There two main power in the war; the Allies and the triple Alliance then changed the name to Central powers. The Allies were based on the Triple Entente of the United Kingdom, France and Russia as for the Central powers they were Germany, Austria-Hungry and Italy. Then after that a few new countries joined the war such as the United states and Japan joined the Allies and the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria Joined the Central powers. I find this topic interesting for me because I like history, I always want to know more about what happened, how did these wars start and how they changed the world after that. The most important thing about this topic specially at that time period is to know the weapons that were invented. So my research question is what new inventions did the war encourage?. To answer this question the main inventions the war encouraged were Flamethrowers, Poison Gas and Trench Warfare and how did these inventions help in the war. In 1914 nations of Europe dominated the world, the British empire controlled fifth of the earth’s land mass. The growing tension in the world was due to the rise of imperialism in this time period, rise of national rivalries in Europe and rise of militarism or the glorification of military powers. Different nations started to see war as a kind of test for their fitness to prosper. And the rise of the tension led many European countries to see war as a solution to their diplomatic crises. Germany started to be stronger and they built their own army. Otto Von Bismarck was a German chancellor, he was the person who initiated the new alliance system; he was afraid that the French might seek revenge after their defeat in the war (1870-1871), so he tries to isolate the French diplomatically. In 1879 he concluded a defense alliance with Austria to protect from Russian attacks, in 1882 he persuaded Italy to join what was known as the Triple Alliance. As Germany was rising as a great military power, this caused the English or the British to change their foreign policy. In the mid 1800’s the British navy was the biggest in the world; it was large as all other world navies combined. As time passed they became weaker and then the British acknowledged the United States as the leading power in the west and they signed an alliance with Japan in 1902, helping the British to concentrate their power in European waters. The spark that caused the sparkle of World War 1 was in Sarajevo, Bosnia where Archduke Franz Ferdinand who is...
