The World Trade Organization (WTO) capitalizes on the regulation of trade among nations. Conducting negotiations and official agreements, the agency promotes ideas of free trade. Faced with trade issues, participating governments are able to meet and discuss concerns involving other nations. Formed in 1995, the WTO strives to liberalize trade. Guidelines for international commerce are the foundations for the WTO agreements, signed by a vastness of the world’s trading nations. Essentially these contracts bind governments with pre-agreed terms to the regulations delegated through the organization. Overall, the functions of the WTO serves as a meeting place for discussion and law making site for binding trade nations.

Serving various purposes, the WTO concentrates on several types polices to fulfill their obligations. Global economic policy making is of great importance and a congruent effort among the WTO, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund. In conjunction with similar institutions, the underlining goal is to format economic adjustment programs. Such programs are dedicated to insuring financial success to countries liberalizing trade. The Ministerial Declaration form in 1994, during the GATT administration, outlines the principles of this policy. The General Agreements on Tariffs and Trade, known as GATT, limited trade barriers among 150 participating countries. The Uruguay Round Agreement of Multilateral Trade Negotiations was approved by GATT, implementing the presence of WTO. GATT holds presence in developing other policies, now carried out by the WTO. The International Trade Centre is a joint effort by the WTO and the United Nations to aide developing countries in export promotion programs. Exporting as well as importing measures are design to integrate and nationalize developing countries.
