1.0 Introduction

Woosh Wireless is a New Zealand start up company, founded as Walker Wireless in 1999. The company started its business by offering fixed wireless data connections for business customers. In 2003, Woosh introduced a wireless data service for resident and business customers as well as different data and communication oriented value added services in several New Zealand cities. To provide these services, Woosh operates public wireless access points for data networks based on a custom 3G technology. Woosh started operating these services in Auckland, followed by cell sites in Wellington and Christchurch. Woosh also offers a communication service using VoIP-technologies since March 2006. At the time of the analysis, Woosh employs 150 people.

The company presently in Wellington and in Auckland provides a bundle of network and value added services, granting mobile broadband access to the Internet and allowing voice communication through a custom Voice-over-IP (VoIP) technology.
