At the beginning of each sub-section, activities are stated which develop candidates. skills, knowledge and understanding of how science works. Details are then given of the substantive contexts in which these skills, knowledge and understanding should be set. It is expected that, where appropriate, teachers will adopt a practical approach, enabling candidates to develop skills in addition to procedural knowledge and understanding. Note that objective test Chemistry 1a examines Section 11.1 . 11.3 and objective test Chemistry 1b examines Sections 11.4 . 11.6. 11.1 How do rocks provide building materials? Edmund Burke was a political philosopher that had once said “You can never plan the future by the past”. Since the early 1980’s, request for labor has changed towards the college-educated people and drifted away from others who have just a high school diploma or dropouts. The economy wants highly educated people to work for the same amount of money as lower educated people. This has really made younger people, and some older people, pursue a college degree of some sort. There are several programs that help young people stay in high school and make their way through college such as the “No Child Left Behind Act” in North Carolina.…
