wild life at risk speech
Good morning, I’m Stephanie Howard speaking for the Wildlife at Risk Organization. We are a group of high school schoolers who want the adult to change their ways of thinking about the poor animals that are being extinct. It’s my honor to be here, in Beijing, to talk to you about endanger species. We are here today to speak up for all the wild animals that cannot speak for themselves. I stand here to speak for the animals that are now extinct, that can no longer be save. And I stand here to speak for the endanger species, whose number are decreasing close to extinction. Animal become endanger before they goes extinct so we, as the dominant group of the world, should take action in this global issue.

It’s our duty as a part of the dominant species, to represent all the other species who wish to return home but cannot return. Animals are created for a reason, if we are the dominant species we should have responsibility for taking care of other who are not dominant. 60% of medical medicines are taken from nature, and if we don’t take action on helping those poor animals we might as well say goodbye to all the solution to HIV and cancer.

Don’t you think we lost enough? We have lost all the mighty Bali Tiger due to over hunting, we have lost the Javan rhinoceros due to loss of habitat. Bali Tiger. Javan rhinoceros.

Do you admire the cute adorable panda that you usually expect to spot in the zoo? Imagine that adorable specie being extinct, there won’t be any panda for you to see in the wild nor in the zoo if we don’t take action in it.

Asking why animal goes extinct, but we, dominant group, never look back at ourselves to address all the crimes we did.

We are the one that cause all those black contamination in the air, damaging the ozone layer which protects the human and animals.
We are the one who polluted their river and sea, so they can no longer drink or live.
We are the criminal and we don’t notice and justify it.

According to foreign affairs the want to protect animals is not a new concept to people. Chinese Taoist expressed that compassion for others should not be expressed solely to human beings. An Indian emperor decreed a law that was against the unnecessary mutilation and killing of animals. Buddhists believe that treating all living things with equal compassion as part of an ethical perception. Even though ancient societies had these philosophies, they seem to have been lost to modern society. The San Joaquin kit fox is a great example of how the growth of human population has dramatically impacted the depletion of another species.…

As the world continues to become increasingly more globalized, people are more focused on the impact it may have on one kind of animal, humans. Through this anthropocentric way of thinking, the impact of globalization on all animals besides humans is often not recognized despite the vast importance that it holds. As the human world continues to work towards globalization, or a more interconnected world, the livelihood and future of nearly all animal species is threatened. The book, “A Sixth Extinction”, written by Elizabeth Kolbert, provides insight into the deeply rooted impact humans have caused on the natural world in a way that no species has done before.…

One of the many reasons as to why humans seems to think they are above nature is partly the fault of how we were raised growing up like Suzuki stated in his essay. Most kids, especially in North America, grew up in urban settings where everything is designed for the needs and wants of humans and like Suzuki said “it’s very easy to lose any sense of connection with nature” (paragraph 1). It is very true, we live in a very fast paced life that we forget that we are just another specie in nature, which leads us to kill anything that ruins our perfectly groomed house with the exception of certain city animals, which are sometimes accidentally killed by cars. Hopefully. Because of this, we think of them as a pest or an annoyance which is…

Did you know that the animal population is decreasing by 0.1% each year. Therefore, it will take 573 years for all animals to die. What will we do then? Every time a species goes extinct, it has a huge impact on the ecosystem. Say a predator goes extinct. Its prey will overpopulate, which can also lead to horrible consequences. Or what if a prey goes extinct. Its predator will have find a new food source or go extinct with it. Also, in a recent survey, nine out of ten people said they would pay tax dollars to save the giant panda. One out of ten people said they would pay to save the Eurasian Hazel Dormouse. Nobody was interested in saving the Dung Beetle or Wasp. Why is this when they do so much for us. The Dung Beetle puts important…

There was a time when man killed animals for food, clothing and shelter. Now people kill animals for trophies and to stroke their egos for bragging rights. “Every year, tens of thousands of wild animals, representing hundreds of different species, are killed by American trophy hunters in foreign countries” (“Trophy Hunting”). “The heads, hides, tusks, and other body parts of most of these animals are legally imported to the United States by the hunters” (“Trophy Hunting”). “Many animals imported as trophies are members of species protected under the Endangered Species Act, such as leopards and African elephants” (“Trophy Hunting”). These facts provide evidence that…

So who cares if a bird or two goes extinct? Or an elephant? Or a bug? To most people it doesn’t really matter. But species extinction is a great moral wrong. Every species has a role in its ecosystem and by intruding on the natural balance of things and thus causing the early extinction of species we are throwing the natural balance out of whack and reducing biodiversity. Biodiversity is key in surviving ecological hardship. When difficult situations arise, it is up to species to adapt and evolve to overcome. By intervening and accelerating the hardship of not just one species, but entire ecosystems, we are creating so much stress of the species present that they simply cannot adapt or evolve quick enough in such a short span of time. Thus, human actions are directly responsible for the extinction of many species, which directly correlates to a decrease in genetic and biodiversity. It is hard to deny that we rely on, and take for granted, all of the species and their roles in their ecosystem and how they keep things afloat. And by irreparably damaging these systems, we are directly relating to our ability to gather supplies such as food sources and lumber and agriculture in the future. Thus it falls upon humanity to act accordingly to try and prevent the damage we will cause if we continue “business as usual” in the…

This is not to say all humans are this way, as many humans try to conserve the natural world and all of the organisms in it; there are however, a select number who do such irreparable damage to the natural world by developing everywhere they can, that they run animals out of their natural habitat and force them into a new location that might not be optimal for resources for the animals. We see daily through people hunting animals to study them, “devoted masters of birds drawn from the life/ Must gather their flocks around them with a rifle/ and make them live forever inside books.” (Wagoner, 13-15). I agree with Wagoner that we, as a species, take the lives of other animals for granted for our own personal gains until they no longer have a fighting chance with life. This is crucial because as more species become extinct at a rapid rate, this could have permanent effects on food webs and food chains that include humans, but we haven’t taken the time to think that far in advance yet because even though we are very self centered beings, as a species we lack the ability to avoid making changes that have damaging long term consequences to the planet and life on…

Many majestic animals have been the targets for poachers, and poachers, being the dumb people they are, don’t know the difference between animals they can and can’t hunt, and end up making them extinct! Hunting is interfering with nature, and at this rate, we will continue to make many species extinct! Some may see hunting as a way of removing overpopulated animals, but there are none of those right now! Hunting not only hurts animals, but it will end up hurting ourselves as well!…

More and more people should be educated and aware to the conservation process as it is our duty to save incredible species on our planet. We should understand that every living organism have the same right to live as we all humans we should not disturb the natural bio diversity as it has consequences which can never be healed. We walk a fine line between man’s desire to gain riches versus our sympathetic tendencies and want to help other people. Fame, power, land, riches, good-looking women, what else could a man want in his life?! Sometimes we lose what makes, and keeps, us human. Our sympathy and desire to help others, people and animals alike, is one thing that separates us from common mammals and other creatures. Humanity’s fight of the goodness of man versus his greed for power and riches is the main topic of The Grapes of Wrath.…

I believe we should allow nature to take its course because Pandas are not a valuable resource. We do not use them or need them in any aspect of our survival, it seems to be a waste of costly conservation efforts and funds. There are many other important animals near extinction in dire need of the funds we waste on pandas. If many of these underfunded animals go extinct, it will cause entire ecosystems to perish along with overpopulation, breaks in the food chain and many other serious effects. They are the most expensive animal to be kept in captivity and hold many unsuccessful attempts at being rehabilitated after the breeding process. The panda is not a sustainable species as it is easily susceptible to many diseases, can only eat one food…

Every year, billions of animals die because of animal testing, abuse and are forced to struggle for survival. Left in unsanitary conditions with no food or water, they have little hope as they live out their days without the compassion they deserve. Some are found and rescued, given the chance to experience how great life and humans can be; others aren't so lucky. It really saddens me to know how cruel the world is and it seems like everything is getting worse as the days go by. Animals are creatures without malicious intent; pure of heart and simple by nature. It is us the human beings that corrupt and twist what is pure to our own malicious intent and desires. How would you feel if someone burned you to death? How would you feel to get beaten by a bat or stomped on until you let out your last breath? You obviously wouldn’t like it. Did you know that thousands of illegal dog fights happen each week and to train the dogs, they starve them, and beat them so they become aggressive? Did you know that every single day more than 38,000 animals are used to test cosmetics, toiletries like toothpaste and shampoo, and household detergents and cleaners? Did you know that eighteen red foxes are killed to make one fox-fur coat, 55 minks to make a mink coat? Did you know that by 2022, 22% of all species will be extinct if no action is taken? What kind of heartless low lives would ever do such a thing? Hurting an innocent creature. What have they done to you that causes you to annihilate them? Nothing. To think that anyone could ever have the mentality to harm animals or anything that’s alive and breathing gets me so distraught! I can’t even imagine the hurt and pain these creatures go through. Example, what if you were a dog walking around the park, minding your own business and out of nowhere, someone totally random comes up to you and kicks you? What if they grab you by the neck and slam your head on the hard concrete? Would you like that? I think not. So why would you do…
