Question: Why is the resurrection so important to Christian faith?

Even now, 2000 years after his death Jesus Christ is followed and looked up to. But perhaps more important than what he said was what he did. His actions were amazing, superhuman even, but eventually led to his crucifixion. It was after his death that Jesus performed his most amazing deed. He was put in his tomb on Friday, on Sunday three female friends went to embalm him... and found him gone. Outside of the tomb the women met a 'gardener' who was in fact Christ, raised from death

"Don't be alarmed," he said. "You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter... you will see him, just as he told you.' "Mark 16; 6, 7

Jesus then appeared to his disciples three times, importantly, each time they had not recognised him by sight, rather by his allowing them to see him as they knew him:

Jesus was for this period unrecognisable unless he chose to reveal himself to others. He had much communication with his disciples, and taught them, he also explained that they were the last days. After the forty days Jesus rose to heaven to join his father

"After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God....
