If a teacher becomes a politician,then it might be good for the country but if a politician becomes a teacher,it is the opposite.No one would be a better witness for this analogy than the citizen of West Bengal.Kolkata witnessed chaos yesterday when “Poribartan” preacher Mamata Banerjee decided to felicitate the winner of the IPL season 5-the Kolkata Knight Riders.The event was managed by the event management company-Trinamool Congress.Mamata Banerjee was seen shouting and instilling discipline in everyone around her.It reminded me of the way teachers deal with students with a wooden stick.There was absolutely no need to organize such a massive public display of the TMC’s love for the Kolkata Knight Riders.Hundreds of business units suffered and public transport came to a standstill.Was all this really required? The total debts of West Bengal are nearly US$38.27 billion.Last month,the WB state government made a demand to the Central government seeking tax moratorium and restructuring of debts and now the CM gifts a gold chain to every player of KKR team.If the state is really in a bad financial state,who is paying for this then? She asked Dinesh Trivedi to resign from the post of Railway minister after he proposed to increase the fare by a measly 28 paise per km,a hike so small that even the common man didn’t complain and now she is blowing money and how! I still cannot get the fact why Gautam Gambhir alighted from his bus and forwarded the trophy to Mamata.What was her contribution to their win? I even seriously wonder what is so kolkatian about this team that had to be felicitated by the State Government.The owners of the team are Mumbai and London based,the captain is from Delhi,the coach is an Australian and only 5 people of the total team of 36 are actually from Kolkata.So just having a “Kolkata” in the franchise’s name makes it a team of Kolkata?The reason I think for Mamata to do all this must just be to ride high on...
