Why I chose to pursue my MBA
Education. “The act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for a mature life” (dictionary.com, 2010)
Throughout my entire life, education has been instilled into my lifestyle, my vocabulary, and my beliefs. It is plausibly one of the first few words that actually came out of my mouth, most likely after the word “mom” and “dad”. Growing up as a child, my father strongly emphasized the importance of education in one’s life and how it is one of the main keys to achieving ultimate success. Every day I was told to be the best in the school, to strive to go all the way to the top and to never stop reaching for the sky. A motto that I live by to this day states, “Shoot for the moon, because even if you miss it you will land amongst the stars.’ (C Callender, personal communication)
Due to my father being a strong advocate for education, and consistently pushing me to always go to school, achieve excellent grades, and striving to be the best, I was able to attend one of the top research universities in the nation, the University of Miami and attain a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in African American Studies. Achieving my bachelor’s degree was a huge personal accomplishment but the feeling of satisfaction was yet to be found. At the mere age of 22, although I was in love with learning Psychology I was still a bit confused as to what I actually wanted to do for the rest my life. The reason why I decided to pursue my degree in psychology is not because I wanted to be a psychologist but because I just wanted to learn about how the intricate mind works, why people act a certain way under certain circumstances, and study the various behaviors of those around me.
