Why had international peace collapsed by 1939

There were important long-term factors that help to explain why war broke out in 1939. One factor was the Versailles Treaty. It was important because this not only helped Hitler to gain trust for his people, but it also helped to justify things Hitler did. Treaty of Versailles made Britain sympathize with Germany. The resentment caused by the Treaty made Hitler rise to power and prepare for a war. One of the reasons why Appeasement was approved was because some people thought the Treaty of Versailles was unfair, therefore allowing the Appeasement to change certain parts of Treaty.

The failure of the League of Nations in the 1930s also contributed towards the outbreak of war. This was because League of Nation couldn’t actually solve or have control over things that were happening. So they could not stop any actual conflicts, but made Hitler bolder.

Economic factors also played an important role. The worldwide economic Depression justified Hitler’s army. When Hitler tried to make a huger army and breach the Treaty of Versailles, he used economic factors as an excuse. Since worldwide economic Depression had created a mass number of unemployed, Hitler said he would use army as a solution out of the Depression. Other countries also used this as a solution for depression, so they couldn’t contradict Hitler’s reasoning.

Another factor which helps to explain the outbreak of war was the policy of Appeasement. Appeasement gave Hitler permission to take over lands and conquer. Czechoslovakia and Sudetenland was absorbed by Germany because of Appeasement. By letting Hitler do those things, the governments basically encouraged Hitler to take more risks and eventually led him to believe that Britain and France will not declare war
