Why did the civil war start in 1642?

The civil war started in 1642, when both parliament and the king confronted each other as they both wanted to rule the country. Both sides wanted to rule the country so they could be powerful, have control over religion, and decide the laws and to be rich. These were the reasons the civil war was initiated. Charles introduced ship money which was normally used in times of war but Charles decide to make it permanent by doing this he became both rich and unpopular. Many people were poor at that time and could not afford to pay this tax. He lost a lot of money and men when he decided to attack Scotland this caused him to go to parliament to plead for money. They refused to give him the money which may have been one of the causes for the initiation of the English civil war them refusing made Charles angry because he needed the money to raise another army to go against Scotland again.

Many Puritans did not like the way Charles acted religiously. He married a catholic French princess. When Archbishop Laud and Charles decide to make the church more beautiful (by reintroducing robes for priests, stained glass windows and many more) meaning more, catholic many puritans disagreed. The puritans were trailed then executed by the Archbishop who then supposedly eats their ears. Charles tried to introduce the English prayer book into Scotland but the Scottish disagreed. Charles might have been a catholic and this may have made the civil war start as England was a protestant country.

Charles believed he was chosen by god. Power was a reason as both the king and the parliament both wanted to rule the country so they could decide on everything. When parliament took over the army it made Charles very angry so he decided to try and close them down again but it did not work and both side made an army to fight. Charles being greed for money made him want more power so he could get money.
