When someone says superhero, what do you instantly think of? Most people would say Superman, Batman, or a fictional character. I am not one of those people. When someone says superhero, I think of a soldier, a US Citizen fighting for freedom, risking his or her life for his or her country. Someone who will do anything in their place to protect what they believe in.
The word superhero, so many fictional characters come into the majority of people’s minds, Not I. I think of my grandfather, he is a real superhero. He fought in World War II. My grandfather always says “...never ever, back down or stop fighting for what you believe in...” However, the truth of it is, he is completely right. We are Americans, we are free citizens, we have our rights, and we should never back down from what we believe in. Major Frederick Blesse of the United States Air Force, popularized the saying “no guts no glory”. We are free American citizens, we fight for what is right and only what is right is what we fight for.
United States Armed Forces, there are multiple branches of this service, but they all have one thing in common; the men and women in the services are real superheroes. Citizens in the United States Armed Forces are not forced to join in the fight, they volunteer. They volunteer to risk their life fighting for his or hers country, they risk their life overseas protecting our freedom; they risk their lives for what they truly believe in. Many men and women have lost their lives fighting for what they believe in, they died in honor with much respect, they were true Americans.
Now when you hear the word superhero, what do you really think of? Do you still think of a fictional cartoon character, or a very brave soul fighting for what he or she believes in?
