Whole Foods is a company that carries both natural and organic food offering customer a wide variety of products. Co-Founder John Mackey was successful during 3 decades of experience in the grocery business. His company early run a business of organic food market and it solidified its position and carry on growing itself. However, with the changing of world economy and a more competitive industry, John Mackey is worrying about reaching the company’s aggressive growth targets. His goal is to reach US$10 billion without losing quality and its current reputation. It is not easy and John Mackey does not sure the best strategy to do that.

Organic foods are unadulterated by artificial additives, sweeteners, colourings and preservatives, in other words, the company tries to keep their food purest and freshest. Price is the problem with the lower income population, however. With those people who have low level income, it is hard for them to buy foods of the company. Additionally, in US there are 3% farmland is organic farmland.

Asia market where the population is 60% of world population is a very big market.

In US, people look for the food with more organic foods because they are afraid of fat. The writer of “Consumer lifestyles in the United States” pointed out that more new diet plans emerged in America in the last half of the twentieth century than in any other country. This trend has also increased the demand for nutritional supplements and vitamins. Additionally, fewer women nowadays have time to devote to cooking, they usually choose the convenience way rather than prepared foods, it presents the threat for organic foods.
