Abstract

  Talent management is the vital piece to any strategic business model. This paper will explore the process of Whirlpool re-positioning their business to be successful in a global market through talent management.
  1.  Discuss what factors emerged at Whirlpool that impacted its talent needs
      Whirlpool enjoyed fruitful revenue, growth and expansion as the primer leader in kitchen and home appliances.   Business challenges arose over the past two decades; those challenges impacted the attraction, development and retention of high quality talent.
      Whirlpool acquired Maytag in 2006 (Goldsmith & Carter , 2010, p259), which lead to a tremendous about of growth. The previous skill sets that helped Whirlpool get to a point a growth where the same skill sets that needed to be developed into more and capabilities of human capital had to be that of people who could compete and do business globally.
      Whirlpool had to make sure they remained competitive and innovative, with that meant talent that could keep up with an ever changing and fast paced market place; subsequently the demand for technology-savvy talent was heightened in order to meet the needs of consumers.
      “The new global market place drove increased competition for market share and talent.” (Goldsmith & Carter, 2010, p259) It was during this time high performing talent was scarce, because talent was limited, some companies began outsourcing. Once corporate loyalty decreased with outsourcing, the work environment changed; causing tenure to decline.
  2. Discuss how expanding globally changed the talent requirements at Whirlpool
