Which is more important – individual freedom, or health and safety for everyone? This question looms in society today. Freedom is defined as "the condition of being free from restraints" Safety is defined as "the condition of being safe; we have to be free to choose our own destiny. Free to make our own choices. We should be free sovereign autonomous individuals. Free to have the power and right of self-determination over our own minds, bodies, lives and souls.
To me freedom trumps all. If to be free I must be unsafe, so be it. Freedom is what makes us individuals . Obviously most people would believe that Freedom and liberty are the most important things in life. Individualism is the moral stance, political philosophy, ideology, or social outlook that stresses "the moral worth of the individual». Individualists promote the exercise of one's goals and desires and so independence and self-reliance while opposing most external interference upon one's own interests, whether by society, family or any other group or institution.
Individualism makes the individual its focus and so it starts "with the fundamental premise that the human individual is of primary importance in the struggle for liberation.
Safety is the state of being "safe", the condition of being protected against physical, social, spiritual, financial, political, emotional, occupational, psychological, educational or other types or consequences of failure, damage, error, accidents, harm or any other event which could be considered non-desirable.
I think safety and freedom are entangled because if you can't do this or that for safety matters, your freedom will be limited. Conversely, safety can reduce your freedom: if you never go out on a limb, never meet people for fear of danger, never go out at night, never try anything new, u will be safer but will neither be free nor happy.
