When My Life Changed Forever
When My Life Changed Forever It all started on August 17th 2012, the day before my baby shower. My, also pregnant, sister-in-law, Tonya, and I were doing the final shopping for my baby shower. I was very excited to be, finally, having the shower. It had already been canceled and rescheduled once, and with my induction date only 6 days away, everyone joked that we would be having it at the hospital. When we left home, we only had two stops to make. The first stop was Babys-R-Us to get her gift for me, which was a home coming outfit for the baby. The second was Wal-Mart to buy the groceries we needed for the baby shower. However, fate had something else in mind.
Our trip, which should have only lasted for a few hours, took all day. Babys-R-Us had already sold out of their newborn summer clothes. How was I supposed to bring my newborn home in winter clothes, in August, with the temperature in the upper nineties? So we went to Ross, but didn’t do much better there. We found some summer clothes, but again everything was mostly sold out. Tonya suggested we try Once Upon A Child, a consignment store in the area. They had so much stuff. After spending at least two and a half hours going through their isles, we were ready to check out. Not only had I found a coming home outfit for my baby, but we both found several outfits for both our babies. At about 7 pm, we finally headed towards Wal-Mart. On our trip of about an hour to the Wal-Mart closest to out houses, my brother called and asked for us to bring home Japanese food for dinner. Adding yet another stop on our trip, but I didn’t mind because I was starving. Just before we were done shopping at Wal-Mart, I bent down to get a jar of marshmallow puff off the bottom self, and when I stood up I thought I peed a little. Although, that had never happened to me, I knew it happens to a lot of pregnant women. So I excused myself to go clean up. After returning, we continued our never ending shopping trip. Before we left the

    What Turned My life Around

There are many memories that have happened in my life that are important to me. It is very hard to select one that has really changed or impacted my life as an individual. Considering I am just about half way through my illustrious life building a bank of historical memories that I would like to recall and some that I would like to erase for good. As I look back, I think the one event that really turned my life around was joining the Navy, 20 years later and I must say it was a decision well made. As I graduated high school my thought process was to be the first person in my family to go to college. Here I am an 18 year old boy from Queens, New York having to travel more than an hour to college, taking two buses and a train. Now this does not sit well with someone when it is in the middle of winter and you feel like the city is just eating you up. It was at that point where I figured college life was not for me. Transitioning from a place where I knew plenty of people to an environment that was completely made of strangers also contributed to my decision on leaving college. Now here I am attending college, it feels like things have come full circle; I am now laying the foundation for my children setting the example that I did not have while I was growing up. As for my future, I am looking forward to gaining more experience through more watershed moments and hopefully I have the awareness to enjoy the transition from the ending to the new beginnings. March 26, 2004 I got up at 7 am and took me a good hot bath. After my bath I put me on some clothes to go to the hospital in Rutherfordton. On this day all I could smell was the scent of hot spring air, birds chirping, and fresh spring flowers. This was the day my labor was induced and I gave birth to my first son. I was 17 years old not expecting to jump head first into a teenage life as being a mother. Leaving home going to the hospital was my husband, grandmother, and my mother. When I got there, a nurse by the name of heather signed me in. After that is when everything got real interesting.…

A month later, I went to my first ultra sound with my mother. I had butterflies in my stomach and I couldn’t stop smiling. The doctor announced “It’s a boy”. My eyes filled with tears and I couldn’t stop smiling. I called Justin at work and told him we were having a precious baby boy. He was so happy to be having a son and to teach him everything he knew. The realization of becoming a mother was finally starting to kick in. When I was seven months pregnant, my mother threw me a baby shower. There were at least sixty people there. Everyone was touching my belly and telling me that I was going to be a wonderful mother. I got absolutely everything I needed for my son. I didn’t know how to thank my mom for all she had done. My baby shower made me realize that…

I remember this story so vividly because it was quite an embarrassing situation for me. It was a beautiful day outside and my mom wanted to go shopping, I hated shopping but I was tired of being at home so, I agreed to go with her. I was 12 years old and I remember wearing a bright red and blue jacket with deep pockets. Our first stop was TG&Y, we got out of the car and I remember thinking that I haven’t gotten into any trouble lately maybe, if I behaved, just maybe, I could finally get that bottle of perfume I had so desperately been wanting for what seemed like forever. I remember it was so beautifully packaged and when I smelled it, it was the most exquisite aroma. I can’t remember now how it smelled, but just that it was the sweetest smelling perfume that my nose had ever had the privelage of being exposed to. My mother was in a great mood and I thought that I would somehow coax her over to the perfume aisle and persuade her to buy it for me. I played along and pretended to be perfectly content looking at the shampoo and the toothbrushes and whatever else she decided to pick up and ponder over. Finally, I mustered up the courage to ask if we could go to the perfume aisle and smell all of the perfume a couple of aisles over. When she said yes, I was so happy and I merrily walked, no, skipped over there with my mom in tow. “Look!”, I said with so much excitement, “They have the perfume I’ve been wanting!”, “Please”, I asked. When I got her response, “No, not today”, within the blink of an eye my…

When they finally got home I asked my mom why Courtney was bleeding from her "privacies" and my mom sat me down and gave me the "talk." She explained to me that girls have to go through this process called menstruation about once a month so we can become a woman and have babies when we get married. She then explained to me why she had to go to the store and what she purchased. She told me she had to buy Courtney things called pads and tampons because my mom no longer had her parts that gave her a period because she had a thing called a hysterectomy when I was four years old, after my sister was born. I quickly gathered the information and wanted to make sure Courtney was ok. I was a little nervous to touch her after the talk, but I just didn't want to hurt…
