When in Rome

When in Rome
    One of my favorite hobbies is traveling. Every time I begin to daydream about my ultimate vacation destination, the first thought that comes to mind is the city of Rome in Italy. Traveling is a great way to interact with new people and experience and learn first hand about new cultures and customs.   As one who travels quite a bit, I still find Rome on the top of my list as a foreign country I’d like to visit.   I find the art and history fascinating and intriguing.
    One reason I have such a great interest in Rome, is my great grandmother came to the United States from Rome, Italy as a young adult. It’s always a great excitement for me to hear and learn about her experiences she had growing up in Rome in the 1930’s. I imagine that Roman cultures and customs from the 1930’s are still a strong part of the Roman criticizes, today. One of my very good friends had the opportunity to visit the county for a week. She had ton of great pictures and stories when she returned; and said she could not wait to go back again to share the fun and adventures with a friend.
      I have such a great passion about the art and history of Rome. Just thinking about the colosseum and what remains of it, and imagining what it use to look like in ancient Rome, filled with spectators cheering for their favorite gladiators competing in various sporting events, get me very excited. Walking down the Spanish steps, as I’ve seen done in many famous movies would be very reticent. Being able to visit the Vatican City and seeing all the artwork, especially the famous painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo, would be a very unforgettable lifetime experience. My grandmother and I share such a strong connection with roman art work.
    I know my time will come soon enough for me to experience this amazing country. In the meantime I have plenty to look forward to over the next couple years with work and school. Hopefully by then my friend will be ready... [continues]
