What i learned in art
This flat slab was made by a young artist in Ms.Malinger's class. The artist seemed to create a piece on fashion. The fashion name brands she used were Chanel, Tory Burch, Birken, and Louis Vuitton. She didn't hold back on her creativity of clay. Her base coat was black and used bright colors on her name brands. She could've been neater on the over all piece. I wasn't that astonished while observing her piece. This work could've achieved a more desirable reaction if she cleaned up on her painting job. There most definitely could've been more space in placing her name brands. The edging of her slab could've been touched up a lot better. The color choices grabs my attention the most. While making this piece , this artist was definitely thinking about fashion designers and name brands. This theme is most definitely fashion and the emotions going through this designers head was her future of being a designer herself. This work describes the artist's future and what she wants to do with hee life in the near future. The artist created this because she wants to express her feelings though her artwork. The artist's view of the world is bright colors, beautiful concepts and crazy style. The artist communicates her concept of what she wants to do with her life though one art piece. Although I am not moved through her work, I can see where she stands and how it inspires her. My feelings about this work haven't changed; I am moved by the idea that this artist can put her entire future in piece though. My first reaction was, 'oh, just another art nice', it was nothing special & I still feel the same way. I believe if this artist can decide to express her entire future in one piece, so can I.

The Greek and Roman Architecture is very much alike, but at the same time they are different in some ways. Wealth and high population densities in the cities had forced the ancient Romans to discover some new architectural solutions of their own. The Roman architecture adopted certain aspects of Greek architecture and created a new type of architectural style.…

I found it very interesting how the artist’s style is described in detail; I especially took note of things like the very descriptive titling of artwork employed by this artist. I like to inspect and make my own conclusions about artwork before digesting the title, or the artist’s/critic’s description and then compare the differences. You will be surprised at the concepts/ideas you seem to overpass which now have more significance. For example, I did not truly understand what the artist was trying to convey, and their definition of the “male gaze” just by observing the picture. However, once I really read the title (thought about it), the picture became very clear (no pun intended). Many more ideas and concepts began to flood through my mind. The picture was now “saying something” for lack of a better term, it still had a message at the beginning, but a much stronger one now. The concept would be very hard to get across w/o title. The image of perfectly tilted fruit coupled with the descriptive title gives you a real insight of the message the artist is trying to portray in this picture, namely her concerns about how females are portrayed in arts and entertainment in often erotic or enticing ways to be consumed by the…

The second art piece that I looked at was believed to be created by Qu Ding this hand scroll was created on silk with ink and pale colors during the 11th century of the North Song Dynasty. The hand scroll was created during a period when the images are meant to depict creation. Viewing the picture you connect with the nature as if present in the drawing, experiencing the textures that are created by the strokes and shadows that are created by the ink and pale colors used by the artist on the hand scroll. Possibly belonging to a collection this hand scroll creates balance while symbolizing an escape from life and into the world.…

When I realized what they were creating I knew they would have lots of planning and that the ideas would jump back and forth so their idea of selecting the design in a contest made me believe that they would not be satisfied with whoever they chose. She had a plan which was unique from others and she stuck to her belief that death is a personal thing making sure that those that went there would be able to grieve and reflect in peace. The type of person she is stood out as she continued to stay confident as people criticized her work and tried to tear her down. The people were ruthless by insulting her and trying to force her to change her art and even get her design thrown out. For someone so young she kept her head up and did not let those against her discourage her. The design spoke for itself as she wanted it to as it was not meant to show the show the terrible times but those that lost their lives regardless of how. This did not contain anything offensive just stating the names so that people can look and reflect without distraction. Although I give her lots of credit for trying to compromise and work with the people who were against her for reasons like the fact she is a woman and not a veteran. In addition she tried to understand where the anger was coming from and I agree that any…

This one seems to fit in with the other art creations at the Jen library though, because around it the other works of art are almost the same in size, this helps give you an idea at how very large this other piece is. Unlike the first piece, this one has a wood base that is left unpainted or stained. Then close to the bottom left corner it has wood planks with white plaster on them all laid pointing outwards from a circle in the center, it reminds one very much of a giant daisy without a yellow center, unlike the top one you get a happy feeling because of this bright beautiful flower. The planks however are torn at the end, and this beautiful daisy starts to look more battered and worn down, it’s kind of sad. Placed above the hole where the yellow pollen of a flower should lay is three rows of five blocks. All of the blocks are made of foam and painted a bright pink, and they are all lined up in straight rows and are uniform, except for one at the bottom left, that one is slightly tilted. In the end I loved how this looked, and when going deeper into the meaning you can really see why this connects so well with the other darker art…

At the El Paso Museum of Art I saw many beautiful and wonderful paintings and sculptures but the “The Portrait” was the sculpture that caught my attention the most. “The Portrait” was sculpted by Frances Bagley an American artist born on April 7, 1946 in Fayetteville, Tennessee. Frances Bagley lives and works in Dallas, Texas. “The Portrait” was created in 1997 and it is made out of stainless steel and marble. I believe that “The Portrait” is an interesting piece of art because it resembles exactly what the title says. It is a portrait of a the artist or a portrait of woman. The sculpture has shape and contour which is the shape of a woman like in a night gown. The sculpture has mass. It also has texture because in the stainless steel you can see that is shine and smooth and the marble is not finish so you can see that is rough. It has color because even if the marble is rough it has different colors. It has proportion and scale in the part of the body from top to bottom as well it does have the proper scale to simulate a woman sitting down. “The Portrait” has design, unity, and aesthetic because the whole piece is appealing to eye since it resembles the shape of a woman with the different pieces of rough marble place inside of the stainless structure and even if the materials does not have a glamorous touch the sculpture does captivate the viewers attention because of its has beauty. But most important the portrait has content and iconography because the piece is portraying a woman that is always beautiful even in her simplest form and it also resembles the meaning that a woman has in society as a strong person because it gives life to their children and as the foundation of the family. In my opinion The Portray has the meaning of what a woman is. She is hard as stainless steel because she knows that she always have to be there as an inspiration for her family or her children. She…

Amanda Herring, from Loyola Marymount University, came and spoke to us about the Gate Keeper and Key Master Hekate of Lagina. For a little background, the sanctuary of Hekate was structured in the second half of the BC in Lagina Lagina was occupied by a single sanctuary at the time. The only people who lived on the site were people who lived in the temples. Hekate has a conspiracy over her origin. She first appeared in the literature, the Theogany. In this entry of poems, she had the the second most spaces dedicated her poem, being only after Zeus. This shows the relevance and impact she had in the Greek world, at the time. She was said to have been greatly involved in affairs to humans. She helped out all sorts of people, whether it was children, students, athletes, etc. She was not really depicted in Greek art, but when she was, it was only in limited space.…

As I walked around with a copy of this piece in my school bag for a week or so, I often thought about what I could possibly say about this painting/artist. Also during this time, I shared this painting with a couple of people, and asked them what they thought of the piece without telling them what it depicted. One individual stated, “They look sad about something.” Another individual stated, “The people appeared shame for some reason.” Then I informed them what the piece was and they wanted to look at it again, they were quite impressed with the work after they realized what it was about.…

The way I viewed this piece of art may not be the same way a peer will. But I can say that if you do not put yourself in front of the art then you may never experience the intended feelings that the artist intended to be seen. I now see art as a story, a chance to go back in time to a point you could never naturally experience. I would love for everyone to experience art the way I was fortunately able to view it and will continue to view it for the rest of my life. Take 30 minutes out of your day next time you go to a museum and really feel the painting you're looking…

Architecture + Fashion Collaboration at Atelier was a collaborative project between architecture and fashion students at Atelier museum. The project was exhibited on April 12 at 79 New Montgomery Street in San Francisco. Every time I pass by this project on my way to school, I feel myself attracted to its special matching style. This project used simple colors and special building materials to demonstrate the great connection between architecture and fashion. Similar to the complementary combination between landscape and building, the project exhibited structural capacity, surface quality and volume from the scale of the body. (AAU Galleries) In my opinion, the goal of this work is to create an incorporated form, structure and surface that give people a new understanding of material usage in fashion design as well as the cooperation between different fields.…
