Poverty can occur in many ways, primarily circumstance and choice.   Natural Disasters are circumstances that can leave a person in a state of poverty.   Even in the tragedy of a natural disaster a person makes choices to stay in this state of poverty.   Ultimately, choices are the primary cause of poverty.  
People make decisions every day; some are more important than others but all have good and bad consequences. People base the choices and decisions they make on what they believe in and on what’s important to them.   Most people in the world look at things in completely different ways, so choices will vary greatly depending on things like beliefs, values, and perspectives.   I believe choices are a main cause of poverty because some of the bad circumstances people are in is the result of choices they made in their past.   For example, if someone were to have a felony on their record they would not be eligible for most forms of employment.   Another type of bad circumstance by choice is passed down from generation to generation in some families. Government checks and food stamps are issued to some families, and some children see this as a way of life.
Americans are given several opportunities to make changes in their lives to get out of poverty.   In America the people are allowed to have more than one job.   If you have a low-paying job, or lose a good-paying job you have the freedom to work two jobs.   One tactic to avoid poverty is to have good budgeting skills and not get into unreasonable debt.   Unfortunately, there are several Americans with this issue and are now in very serious debt.   Another feasible option to increase your chances of escaping poverty is to further your education through some form of college or technical school.   Younger people have the opportunity to learn a trade or craft through a free government program called Job Corp.   Individuals who may become injured may have the opportunity to improve their situation through workers compensation...
