1) What social issues do I feel strongly about?
I feel strongly that the minimum wage should be raised because the lower class will be able to provide for themselves and their families. The government feels the lower your class, the lower the cost of living , which is not necessarily true. I think that it’s more expensive to live in a lower class area. For example in Dayton,Ohio, the cost of living is “low” as opposed to Atlanta,Georgia, and the high expense of living. At the wage it is at they will never be able to rise out of the poverty stricken levels. It seems like the cost of living and food is steady rising but the pay is slowing rising. Companies are making millions and even billions and its employees are barely able to make a decent living, while the higher ups need to take a pay cut. Employees who make minimum wage have a much higher stress load and are at the crossroads between paying the light bill or putting food on the table. Then you have the higher ups who seems to only have to decide where they want to go for vacation or what new car or house to buy.

2) How do I go about solving personal problems?
When I need to solve a personal problem I try to first figure out what is causing the issue and what I can do to eliminate it. If that doesn’t help I seek help from family and friends who have the same issue or issues. I try to find someone who has experience and ask them what they have done to help them out. I also seek help from professional doctors, therapists, instructors and or counselors. I understand that some problems will not go away on their own or overnight so I make sure to not get overwhelmed. It was suggested that I take it one problem , one step and one day at a time. I have also learned that writing in journal or notebook has helped as well. I

Two main issues that workers face are insufficient wages to support their families which causes them to depend on government funding. Secondly, workers are faced with decreased job satisfaction due to making low wages. Additionally, increased pay will allow people to further support themselves and avoid taking benefits from the government and can use…

When you hear high school and college students talk about their employment experiences, all they seem to say is how they don't get paid enough. I've even said that myself quite a few times. In today's society, this is almost impossible. An increase in the federal minimum wage is in the interest of the nation as a whole, although it will impose some costs.…

All these articles mentioned above in my research focuses on both the benefit and drawback of minimum wage hike. We saw many voters want the minimum wage to go up, so that they can live a better life. Many other articles also show that in the long term its effect would be devastating. The real question is, which sides outweigh the other? We know now that there are flaws and perks to increasing the minimum wage but would it be worth it to even change it at all? Should we lower it? According to Sarah Shemkus, an award-winning journalist from salary.com “An employee working a 40-hour week at the federal minimum wage would earn $15,080 per year.” This small annual amount of money is just barely under the…

There are many thoughts and opinions on minimum wage. Minimum wage was put into practice to keep businesses from taking advantage of the “small people.” Most of the workforce making minimum wage is “young adults” because companies feel that they can take advantage of them. The main reason that businesses exploit these workers is because many of these people have not entered or finished college. Of the total affected workers, 81% are adults. Of these 81% adults, 63% are women and 37% are men. This shows that companies still have gender discrimination in the workplace. Companies are not only paying people ridiculously small amounts of money…

minimum wages are struggling to live on a salary that is below the poverty threshold. In 2012, the U.S census posted that in a family of three; their income is 18,552, (U.S Census). The increase of minimum wage was implemented during The Great Depression to try and help boost the economy, and it worked. This move helped get the United States out of the Depression. A higher minimum wage has many benefits to the biggest percentage of the United States; it would affect the economy in a good way. Higher wages benefit both the earner and they also help the economy at large by increasing consumer spending. Americans would be more inclined to spend, when spending increases so do jobs and the economy(Reich 2010). Increasing the minimum wage would mean an improved economy and being able to sustain American recovery.…

People everywhere are voicing out that we need to increase minimum wage, again. They say that an increase will have a minor impact on jobs but there are no facts to back them up. The impact of raising minimum wage has been studied since the beginning, and has been concluded that raising minimum wage hurts the poor, and helps the rich. Raising minimum wage takes away jobs; especially the low-skilled and young worker, keeps people on welfare, and also encourages high school students to drop out. When you look at the facts, is it really worth raising minimum wage? All credible research has come to the same conclusions, and these I will discuss with you.…

In the article Why We Need to Raise the Minimum Wage by Andy Stern and Carl Camden, the authors support raising of minimum wage. They argue that raising the minimum wage could reward hardworking Americans by providing basic needs such as basic medical insurance and living in secure housing. Since the low wages are not enough to get those basic needs, workers are getting paid in cash because they can avoid tax responsibilities. The authors allege that raising the minimum wage will restore dignity and value to low-wage work.…
