I was Standing in a check out line at Whole Food behind two young lady’s, could not help but hear the conversation...goes like this “See that old person don't they know to bring their own grocery bags?” “That's the problem with there Generation they did not care enough to save our environment for future generations.”
I said nothing, on the way home I was thinking about the brown grocery bag, we reused them for numerous things, most memorable besides household garbage bags, was the use of brown paper bags as book covers for our school books. This was to ensure that the public books were not be defaced by our scribblings while Personalizing our books.
Thinking how we were so bad, We walked up stairs, because we didn't have an escalator in every store or office building. We walked to the store and did not use our 300hp SUV every time we had to go two blocks for a coffee and in a paper cup that fill the holes in the land, called land fills. We had our coffee in porcelain cups over and over!
I remember my Mother washing baby's diapers, We even dried our clothes on a line in the sun. I got hand me downs from my brothers, Back then we had one TV 2 channels and only came on after 5 and off at midnight .. And the screen size was not the size of the state of Montana.
Back then we did not fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. That is how we got exercise by working so we did not need a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity,
we drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a plastic cup or a plastic bottle that will end up on some island in the pacific. We took a streetcar or a bus and kids rode bikes to school I walked, Mom was not a 24 hr taxi service, we only had one car, My Dad parked the car and rode the bus to work ..On some week ends a road trip to the mountains for a picnic real plates and glasses.
