What Missouri Valley College Means to Me

Missouri Valley College is more than a private, four-year liberal arts college; it is a family that I am proud to be a member of. Over the last four years, I’ve been accepted as an individual, and member of my new, ever expanding family. The Valley family has helped facilitate my athletic and personal growth and intellectual achievements. It is safe for me to say that I’m a much different person than I was four years ago. My parents, coaches, professors and friends can all attest to that. I cherish the relationships I’ve made with these people and will always remember them fondly. In my four years here I’ve met not only my best friends, but also some of the most amazing and unique professors. I live by the motto, “everyone has the will to win; but only a precious few have the will to prepare to win.” The classroom challenges, professors and experiences I’ve had at Valley have prepared me to succeed, prepared me to win. The college’s motto is, “Share our Tradition, Share our Pride.” Share our Tradition. I’ve been proud to participate and support several MVC traditions, from running in the torch run and attending Convocation to participating in the insanity of Midnight Madness. My friends and I have also created traditions of our own. At the end of each school year we get together for the “Valley Finale.” It’s an occasion for us to laugh and reflect on the memories from another year at “the Val.” This will be the last year for our event; it will be the “Grand Valley Finale.” Although this is the end of one tradition, the memories will last a life-time. Aristotle defined pride as a crown of virtues. The virtues MVC has instilled in me include my physical, intellectual and spiritual growth. My personal accomplishments and the challenges I’ve conquered and the virtues of hard-work, acceptance, honesty and patience. Pride is a feeling. The feeling I get when...
