What does maintaining purity mean to ME? And what ways can you go about protecting MY purity? As a Christian I am called to a higher standard of living than when I walk in my fleshly desires. The Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 "You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body." Whether I am young or old, the battle rages on in my flesh to remain pure and holy until I am married. First I must remember that God created sex to be a beautiful expression of love between a man and a woman who are joined in marriage. Since sexual activity can result in the creation of a precious, eternal, human soul, it is obviously very important and valuable; therefore, Satan does his best to pervert me from remaining pure. In today’s world especially being a college student, I am bombarded with images and media that bring impurity in my life. Therefore I take time to examine the things that are attempting to steal my purity. Whenever I am desirous, I ask God for the courage and determination I need to place safeguards in my life as I protect my mind against impurity. I pledge to fight for the virtue of purity in my life, also I ask God for his strength, and I ask God to renew my mind and cleanse any impure thoughts. I’m committed to honoring God in how I behave, in how I dress, and in all that I do. I never forget that “the one Christ who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). As powerful as the evil one is to tempt me, God is infinitely more powerful to deliver me and has given me in Christ all the resources I need to live a godly life. “It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God.” (1 Thessalonians 4:3-5).
