Westside High School Student: Jaron Hartley
Jaron Hartley

Hartley is a Westside High School student athlete who runs track and competed across the state, for what he has now, a Kansas University scholarship. The scholarship that Kansas University offers was a full ride which includes; tuition, room and board, and meal plan. Over the years of running from bullies; Hartley discovered his passion for running. Throughout middle he looked into track which he thought was too much for him. Hartley always thought he couldn’t be the best only because he has little hands and probably toes too. All of his good genes were sent to his twin brother.

Hartley wasn’t the smartest student in his senior classes; especially in English IIII where he cheated his way through that class for a passing grade. He cheated not because he lacked intellects, but because he talked too much n never had the time to complete an assignment or study for a test. Eventually around the second semester, he had a change of Hart, (lol get it). So talkative he decided to run for student council; with lack of confidence he just stook to track.

Always messing with stuff, Hartley was suppose to be sent to Alc. Due to all the referrals for constantly distracting class, he came to a change in his life. “Look woman, come you clit, and do my work.” Yet that gets him no where. The most difficult student a teacher has seen yet, but for some reason they all grew accustomed to him. Hartley is a student sadly no one can forget. Always hold interesting, and dramatic conversations. This summer he will be looking into acting audition as a hobby.

I was attending my brother’s graduation at the end of my freshman year. My mother had been concerned with my future as a varsity player because of my small stature compared to the six-foot- plus giants in our conference. She addressed her grievances to Coach O’Connor in person (much to my embarrassment). But where she had seen flaws, he saw advantages; O’Connor was quick to point my speed and how I was probably the “smartest person on the field at a time.” Again, his actions struck me and he had fully earned my admiration. This decision opened a door in which I would try to live my life with O’Connor’s lessons in…

As a boy, Larry had the heart of a blue whale and the talent to match, but was simply “packaged in the wrong-sized body.” Michael was lazy as a young boy and could have enjoyed doing other things besides playing basketball for hours on the small court their father, James Jordan, had made in the backyard. However, Larry refused for Michael to let his talent go to waste. Because of this new found dedication from his brother, Michael was able to handle a very hard situation in his life with perseverance instead of giving in. When Michael Jordan did not make the varsity basketball team at Laney High his sophomore year, he went on to be a star on the jayvee team at the school. Larry pushed him when he was younger to work hard and Michael used this lesson to improve and make the varsity basketball team the next year. Also because of Larry’s pushing, Michael rose to be a star on that team as well. “He was as driven as ever, the hardest-working player on the team in practice.” Without this hassle from Larry as a young boy, Michael would have never been able to work up to his potential and accomplish all that he did in his amazing career.…
