Weight loss: My Research Plan
I am about 20 pounds overweight and am experiencing difficulty losing the weight. I allow several factors to interfere with this goal. I am very busy with work. Between transit and work hours, my work day is about 11hours. Now that I am in school, I spend one and a half to two hours a night with studies and discussions. I have family time, which is much less now; and I’m always tired, which is likely partially due to needing to lose the extra weight. In reality I know there is only one reason I’ve not lost the weight: I have not fully committed myself to doing so.
The information I will need to gather to create a successful weight loss program for myself includes dietary recommendations, exercise programs, a listing of several benefits that will entice me to stay committed to the plan, and a suggested timeline for reaching my goal.
I believe much of this information may be available in various health and fitness publications, which can be found in the university’s online library. I will start my research by going to the Library tab in the virtual classroom and University Library from the menu that comes up. One of the first options I have is to run a search using weight loss as keywords.
When the search results come back, I can refine them by selecting additional criteria in under the Refine Your Results option on the left side of the page. This allows me to hone in on the specific type of information I’m looking for. Because sources such as patient, nursing, or Amy M will not likely pertain to weight reduction programs I will not review information in these areas.
If I don’t find the information I’m looking for with this resource I can look at specific databases on the library page. For instance, clicking on the Article Databases – Major tab takes me to a page where I can search EBSCOhost, ProQuest or Gale PowerSearch databases for... [continues]
