Right now I am a personal trainer with aspirations to someday become a P.E. Teacher, so physical education is obviously important to me. With all that in mind I decided to research the non-profit organization called California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAHERP).
On the homepage (www.caherp.org), I didn’t think there was much information at first; I just thought it was listing information of upcoming events. After looking at it for a little while, I realized there is some links to useful information on the right hand side regarding Physical Education Framework, Health Education Content Standards, Physical Ed Content Standards, Restructuring Proposal, and even on-line CAHERP membership applications.
Even with all the useful links to the information on the right, I still didn’t know what the CAHERP does, its mission statement, or anything until I found the “about us” link on the right hand corner. After clicking on it, there was some descriptive information in relation to the organization’s history, how it is funded, and even its long term goals. CAHERP’s emphasis is to promote, “progress of school, community and statewide programs of health, physical education, recreation and dance which will embody such opportunities and which will insure the inclusion of such programs within the most appropriate philosophical and social context of life in California.” (cahperd.org)
I found the website easy to follow and even found some useful information on the state standards for physical information such as California requires 200 minutes of physical education for every ten school days for students in grades one to six, and double that for grades seven through twelve. The only thing I would change about the website is the homepage. Although it is good, I would put the mission statement in bold on the top and have the upcoming events either below that or in a separate link.... [continues]
